*sigh*

I've been chasing tone with money. I don't know how much I've spent, and I don't think I want to. Lots of high end amps, a few Axe-Fx of various flavors, and a couple rounds with the Kemper and Eleven Rack (before they were $350...). Special cabs with special speakers. FRFR solutions. At the end of the day, here I am...back where I was more than a decade ago. I couldn't be happier. It's not the BEST, but it's the best I need. And most of all, I quit tweaking, and actually started PLAYING a little bit! I put my Kemper/CLR rig up for sale this weekend, and can't wait for it to be out of my sight.

I think I'm done chasing expensive amp gear. It doesn't make me happy; it makes me poor. I'm rocking my office/guitar room...that's it. It sounds huge here. It wouldn't with a band, but who cares - it will never see that kind of stage.

I think after all is said and done, I've got about $500 into this "rig", and I can't really think of anything else I'd really need!

Simplicity. Not everyone will dig it (especially not here!!), but I do.

/end blog.

Awwww, that's cute.

:)

Srsly if it floats your boat and you're happy with it, then it's exactly what you said. To hell with it!

Kinda what I'm alluding to. I get sucked in as easily as anyone else (this BB is nearly causing me financial ruin!  ), but I'm *HOPING* I've found a certain level of maturity/self-control that will let me go "That's cool. Love to see it. Don't need to buy it though."

I think my mortgage would almost be paid off if I didn't play guitar. But then again, I'd probably just be a smack junkie...

Haha...Cool Chris.

Worked for Loomis and Romeo.

It actually sucks if u move ahead in a gear gas/search and I like what u sold off more. Been there. Kinda went full circle myself and took 2 years to get almost back there...lost a little money cuz of the market, but not much thank goodness.

Ps....where in MN u at?

Dude...you used to be cool. Who am I going to swap gear with now?

Chris, if you're looking for a great tube amp that gives you Marshall/Vox type tones, look no further than the Guytron GT20. They're tough to find, but well worth the price when you do. It's got a padded direct-out after the attenuator, phase select, and an on-board Sennheiser mic with XLR output. Takes pedals great, and is light enough to take wherever you need to. It may be the one amp I will never sell, but there's always tomorrow...

Seriously though, don't let money spent get to you. If you would have paid the home off early, you would have done the same thing after the fact. While the Line 6 is fine in a pinch, you're going to need a throaty tube amp to match those choice instruments.

Here's a shredder on his GT20...

Hey if your happy that is all that matters. We have all been there but GAS is a hard drug to kick !

I still have my POD Pro. The X88 preamp model sounds pretty cool yet today.

Some of the tones from Eleven Rack are great also. Cheap too!

Hey man, no hate here. I got one of those $300 new Eleven racks. One thing I decided with it is to dial in tones I like and NOT try to get a true "insert amp name here" sound. It has made creating tones much easier.

I have a solid state 1980's Randall rig and i'm more than happy with it. I've been through countless tube rigs and was never completely happy with them, so i've stuck with what has worked for me for over a decade now. I don't care if people scoff at my rig and think it's shit, cause when i turn it on and start playing they shut their mouths, or ask me what tubes i have in it?

I've been in the same boat numerous times. Had the axe, Kemper, etc...expensive pedals that do one thing. I've gone back to my DSL and a pod hd500x. I use that for FX or to run direct at gigs. I've spent way too much money on stuff I don't really need. I don't get how guys spend so much on expensive gear that don't even use any of it live!

yep. i stopped fucking around gear acquiring a few years ago too and tried to focus more on songwriting and playing.

still use my trusty digitech 2101 to this day....actually working on downloading all my sounds and profiles from the past to a new program i just bought (midi wizard) it works fantastically for saving programs and bulk dumps etc.

something about the 2101 is just what i like to hear....which to a lot of other people is harsh, processed and digital..but i still love it, and dont care.

Boom, exactly! Way too many people get hung up on replicating the original amp exactly, the name or brand on the front of gear, cut in a live mix, etc. Find what you like to play and do just that.

Played an mp1 and DigiTech gsp 21/power amp for years. Started flipping amps in 09 and like you, i'm afraid to know how much I've spent. As long as you're happy with your sound, who cares?

That's been my long standing favorite - "real amps" inclusive!

I just play a 2204 or a 2204 clone and an OD with a koko boost. In hindsight, i wish i had spent more on a good guitar with no dead spots! 2 guitars that play well, a reliable good amp, and a backup should your amp fail for direct.

Couldn't agree more! A good tone is a good tone.

Have been on this road for a while now. Down to my Kemper, a Mark IV, a Bogner 4x12 and pedals. I have a feeling I'll have less in a short while.
