Lynch Mob - Wicked Sensation. Hands down this album (I first listened to it in early 2000) made me want to transform from being a cover guitar player to a lead guitar player. Plus it is my benchmark for rhythm guitar tone :D

Pretty much anything I listen to has some sort of influence on me/"hey I want to cop that tone or riff", but nothing has motivated me as much as WS.

Kinda surprised none of the Dokken answers were followed up with some Lynch Mob . . .

Well I was l aready into George earlier from Breaking The Chains onward so I do not list it as an influence, but it is defintely up there as a classic IMO!! It pretty much equals or surpasses the Dokken stuff!!!

I had listened to Sabbath and heard Purple and a few others. I enjoyed music but did not have any intention of being a guitarist. Then, a friend of mine played Live After Death and it was over for me. So, although I can list Sabbath, Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth, Satriani and a slew of others, Live After Death was my launching pad. I was a huge Maiden fan after that, and I wanted to play guitar for the first time.

I would listen to that cassette with headphones on and picture myself on stage and just become absorbed in it. The first time I felt like I was a real guitarist was when I nailed the intro to The Trooper.

All out war - truth in the age of lies
Meshuggah - contradiction collapse and none
Pantera - vulgar display of power
American nightmare - background music

This thread is great!

For me, there was definitely a SINGULAR moment that made me want to pick up a guitar and play...

I was born in 1968 and listened to all the regular radio rock, with particular interest in the harder stuff, along with any albums my youngest uncle brought into my grandma's house.

Loved Priest, The Stones, Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Mountain, ELO, The Doors, Pink Floyd, etc.

Then, someone in school gave me a copy (and I do mean copy  ) of "No Life Til Leather".

Sound quality was shit, but I can still remember thinking " I don't know what the hell this is, but I want to do it!"  ....and I want MORE!

That crappy quality cassette was a game changer for me.

Specific Albums that molded me:

Metallica, everything
Anthrax, everything
S.O.D Speak English or Die
Slayer Reign in Blood
Judas Priest everything, but especially the early stuff
Pink Floyd anything Gilmore plays on
Iced Earth Something Wicked This Way Comes
Pantera everything

There is a lot more that I am influenced by in one way or another too.

First one that comes to mind.....
KISS ALIVE!!
I was in Kindergarten.
Swear to truth....had friends over in elementary school and we would listen to that double record set for hours.

This is a great thread! Many great albums mentioned!

Mine:
I think I was about 5 yrs old when I started to notice this stuff and I blame my sister for forcing me to listen to many of these albums.....

Earliest I can remember:
Donna Summer - McArthur Park (yes....I know.....disco....it was the thing at the time, apparently)
Kiss - Dynasty - saw them on one of those Saturday morning shows... (again.....guess why I liked it...lol..see above!)
Styx - Pieces of Eight (this was rockin')
Cheap Trick - Dream Police (I think this was my first concert?)
Led Zeppelin - IV
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Van Halen 1, 2, & Fair Warning ('nuff said!)
Iron Maiden - Killers, Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave
Judas Priest - Hell Bent for Leather, British Steel, Point of Entry, Screaming for Vengance

Not that I'm as good as those musicians (nor do I particularly sound like them), but they make me want to reach for my guitar.

Whats cool is I can hear an old Pat Benetar song on the radio....or Rick Springfield.....
and makes me want to play!
Just what ever tickles my fancy at the moment these days I guess....
