I luv me some GT75s. They are the sound of metal if you grew up playing Marshalls in the '80s. I do like bright, tight, and mids-scooped metal tones... Which also defined metal in the'80s. See a pattern here.


I'll let all the kiddies keep their low-mids and boosted djenty mids. Not my thing.

I like 75's with the right amp and loud but I go for the G85s over them.....same basic tone but the 85s have a warmer bottom end and smooth top end

It's been about 3 months now with my early 80's 800 cab with the original 12T-75's. Got a great deal on it from GC used. Sounds great with my 2204 and my DSL never sounded so good. I prefer V30's with my Shiva however.

I have these (1986 ones) in my Marshall 1966B cab; the 'serifed font' label.

They're indeed totally different from the later versions (which I had in a Peavey Bandit 112 about 20 years ago, after I blew up the Sheffield speaker).
These mid 80's T75's have NO strident high-end, but a nice one. Also, mids are more prominent (still scooped compared to say a Classic Lead 80).

I've got a couple beat to death Ampeg 4x12s made around '90 with 75's. I'll have to dig 'em out and give them a listen. I've been using a pair of 1960ax the last 7 years or so.

I actually heard somewhere that the WGS Veteran 30 is closer to a T75 than a V30

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I didn't think the Veteran 30's sound like V30's at all. To me they sounded like a better T75 - fuller mids, smoother top end, louder. They sounded killer mixed with V30's. Didn't like them by themselves. Too polite.

I have 2 of the Ipswich England 75's paired with 2 WGS HM75's in a spare 4-12" cab..monster low end and overall sound great,even when I paired them with some English V30's.

I admit they are probably not the speaker of choice for most high gain amps, but I find them to have a very uncompressed sound that works great for driven cleans and mid gain sounds. I didn't like them with my 5150 until I put a gain cut switch on it, then it actually sounds pretty good through them too. Not sure if I would call them bright, I would say my V30s are much brighter and cutting than the T75s I have, which always sit lower in the mix by comparison. For me the main struggle with T75s is the lows, not the highs, where the main struggle with V30s is the highs, not the lows.

I have this speaker combination in a Marshall JCM 900 1960A cabinet that was missing 2 of its original Celestion G-12T 75 speakers. I bought 2 Celestion Vintage 30 speakers (1 English made, 1 Chinese made) and installed the speakers in an X configuration. I was inspired by the Bogner Uberkab speaker combination. I plugged in my Rocktron Vendetta amp head (modded by Bruce Egnater) into my mixed speaker Marshall 4x12 cab and it's a sound that caught me by surprise. I expected the speaker combination to suck and I was actually shocked. The G-12T 75 speakers carried the highs/lows while the Vintage 30 speakers carried its famous midrange character. The mixed 1960A speaker cab gave me a unique & useful sound with my amp that I never heard of from a standard Marshall 1960A cab.
