Amp for me

Ok , I save up few bucks for amp. Maybe I will find used or new in good price, nevermind.
My starting point is the Exodus Exhibit B - The Human Condition. I love the guitar sound of Gary Holt in this record. Another example is the RRF record from Children of Bodom.
I love also smooth solos played by Marty Friedman from his solo records.
It will be very nice if amp will be versatile - "Marshall type of sound" also fits my style.
Engl Savage or Powerball 2 will do the trick ? Or maybe you have another examples.

My current gear is ENGL 2x12 PRO (V30) and Dean VMNT ( but I want to buy additional guitar - ESP Eclipse FT or Edwards Alexi signature).

I like the Savage a lot better than the PBII. Consider the Blackmore, too. I´m not sure I´d call any of the Engls versatile, though, they always kind of have their own thing going on.

Hmm , due to my cab ( ENGl FL V30) I consider a slightly darker sounding amp.
I'm affraid that Savage might sound a bit too shrill for my taste.

What are the other options than Savage ? Maybe Fireball 100 ?
Now I'm more a lead player than "riffmaker".
Of course I will try the Savage before but there is a problem , they are very limited in my country(temporary).

Save up a little extra cash and get the ENGL STEVE MORSE

COB used kranks in the studio last time i researched it.

Why not grab a krank revolution and have it modified?

I don't wanna fuck with mods or anything. I want to buy an amp with I can get "sweet spot(tone)" right out of the box.

P.S - I don't like newish COB guitar tone ( from RRF). I much more prefer tone from AYDY or HCDR ( But this is still a bit brighter tone that I'm looking for).

First ditch the 2x12 and get a 4x12. Your not going to get the low end chunk of the bands you mentioned.

As for a amp..........with that level of gain....no clue.

I don't need 4x12 , 2x12 is enough for me but nevermind...
I'm asking for AMP not CAB.

The tone i was referring to IS the brighter tone, sixpounder was recorded with a krank. They are not known for their smooth top end so you could have a solo option.

In reality you want to have your cake and eat it to. That kind of amplifier does not exist - if you do not want to work with someone to get you closer to what you desire with a base amplifier then grab a modeling unit like a rocktron prophecy or axe fx and run it into the effects loop for friedman soloing while using a particular amplifier's marshall traits for rhythm.

You know , I said I would only prefer stock amp but I don't have anything against modded amps.
The problem is I don't know anyone who can "install" any mod. No one in my city or in range 100 km.

I guess I must test any amp any then I should pick one.

You mentioned AXE FX or rocktron ... Yeah I know that pieco of shit is brilliant stuff with lot of sound options but ... It's too expensive for me. I can buy anything in price range of Fireball 100.

See if you can at least find decent recordings of some amplifiers that are close to what you are looking for that you dont have access to in your country/location. Engl's can pack on the gain quick to make up the difference but they sound nothing like marshalls or the type of COB tone going on. Even a modified marshall is not what you're after, and neither is a SLO based amp. It is quite different.

I dont have experience with any H&K amplifiers but if that is the type of solo tone you would like and are more of a solo player than rhythm then definitely try to start there. As far as the modelers go the Axe Fx Ultra's have really come down in price, as have the standards. You dont have to have the latest and greatest, just something that will do the job. I know for a fact you can grab used rocktron prophecy II's for close to $800 all day long. It will have that engl-ish type of gain structure but also have plenty of versatility for marshalls or friedman soloing.

The krank brightness would also work in favor of your Engl 2x12 darker tone cabinet, so dont misjudge it at all. It will also get you close.

Just a few suggestions.

Check this out. I played one of these at guitar center and had lots of gain and played good.

Or wait till the Randall Satan comes out.

I think the Savage would give you exactly what you want...its hands down the best amp in the ENGL lineup IMO. Great rhythm and lead tones to be had and I found it easy to dial in, even with all of its "tweakability".

i believe holt was mixing a peavey xxx and a 5150 for those album tones

for the camp crunch vids on youtube, he was using an engl savage se, and, as sneap was involved, im sure there was some reamping/mixing again for every track with a 5150.

a 5150 may just be the thing you're looking for....they're so brutal with the right power tubes....ungodly loud, and sound good at lower volumes too.

i'd look into the 5150, the xxx, or the savage se if you're dead set on spending all your cash.
otherwise, the xxx might do the trick for you too.

Yeah I thought about this amp . But I don't know which will be better- 5150/6505 or 5150II/6505+. The other concern is I don't know if this amp will match my cab well.
And well I must say this - Fireball 100 ... seduce me ... noise gate , tube monitor , mid boost and this very dark sound.

I don't want anything bright or harsh. You know , V30 is bright and just add a bright amp and you will have disaster.

5150's work great with V30's. Depending on which type of influence you go for will depend on what amplifiers will work to get you closer. It sounds as though you've already decided on the amplifier you would like to go for :D

I must try this 5150/5150 II(which is better ?) first , and then I decide. At this moment If I will like FB100 , I will take it.
