I've got 2 Metalhead modded Marshalls. They're awesome!

Awesome Dino from Fear Factory used his stuff back in the day

I remember a modded Marshall Dino had on the first Fear Factory tour, that must be the mod, the noise gate was great and the gain was crunchy as hell. This was when he still played six string ESPs... I remember standing around that amp with the guys from Carcass and Napalm Death and we were all just blown away with it.

That's the mod! Probably the first amp ever with a built-in noise gate?

Jtyson,

Thank you for the pictures, very cool stuff. Do you have any pictures of Metalhead modded amps?

Those were Mike's pics, I was just razzin him   The 900 Langner pic with the Race Tech sticker on it is mine
I WISH I had all those, I would have a very different screen name :D And you would all have to bow down before me..

Hey Mike, tell me about that mic-pre, is it mostly for recording?

This is a Metalhead Modded Marshall right here:

Elan Memran was the guy that started Metalhead. If you look at old GFTPM mags from the 80's, you'd see some small print ads for the company. He later started another company called "Elan" and had production style power amps, preamps and I believe heads as well.

Damn Mike you holding back on me?!?!?!??

Not holding back, most of these are customer's amps that were sent to me for servicing. A couple are mine though ;) For example, Jim sent me his Langner because it only worked with active pickups. As soon as you plugged in passives into it and went beyond noon on the gain, it would oscillate. Properly positioned shield plates were added, now it doesn't squeal like a pig anymore. Hands down the best JCM900 mod I've ever heard/played

That preamp belongs to Linsk. Sent it up for servicing. Todd told Dave that it was originally done as a mic/instrument preamp. When you plug a guitar into it, its an amazing and unique sounding pure clean channel. It doesn't break up at all. Very cool piece. It's completely thrown together literally with glue and duct tape haha but it sounds killer and that is what counts.

The DCP-1 Elite preamp with the Hyper mod is the most interesting one. This was the last specs of Todd's work. The Hyper mod adds way more freq selective gain to the OD channel. Makes the stock DCP-1 sound tame in comparison

Cheers,
Mike

Wow, I cant imagine...
Tame is probably the LAST word I would think of when talking about a DCP1   Amazing its that much better
BTW, the cali++ is so cool, I cant believe the range of tones in that thing. Old-school, fat, majestic plexi tones all the way to full nuclear
meltdown, it really is one of the coolest modded Marshalls I've ever heard in one, infinately adjustable channel
I gotta get a clip up, I tried several ways the other night, but it would not upload (it said file too big) I'm gonna get on soundclip or net musicians or something similar as soon as I can
Thanks again Mike, you are the keeper of the keys

I know right   It's much more angry and vicious with about 25% more gain.

Awesome man, I'm glad you're digging the Cali++. I'm doing one for Jason Frankhouser (Killertone) with some other ideas added to it and some stuff that he requested on it.
I'd love to hear your clip of the wife mod

Cheers,
Mike
