Amp Techs average turnaround time on mods?

Self inflicted by FJA...OP never said who it was, just was asking what was a reasonable turnaround. I think these kind of threads are great, exposes vendors for what they are. Helps people from making bad decisions on who to use. Happy that some of you had good experiences, this OP clearly has not. Hoping we hear an update with resolution/final outcome.

Jerry owner of FJA is a dick! Had him mod an amp for me. His communication is terrible, after several phone calls, personal emails, and pm here on RT after his 6-8 week mod time I had to post a thread on the forum to get a response. I would never deal with him again! I never asked him for any updates until we got past 8 weeks and then it turned into even trying to get a response from him.

It's amazing how some moders communicate so well before the money and amp is sent and then ...Crickets and the awkwardness of trying to get updates on that lung replacement.

I tried contacting Jerry a few times over the years to do mods on different amps I owned. Out of the 45 times that I called him and left him a voicemail, he called me back once and was pretty condescending the entire time. He cut me off during conversation and then just said enough to make me not want to send him any piece of gear. Ever.

To the original poster, I hope everything works out.

Yea; I don't have much hope in things working out. He could just screw up my amp or let it sit and take ever longer than it already has.

Amp techs are often musicians themselves so more often than not, you get a lot of the same, fucked up personality traits to go along with them. I won't name names but I believe there's three basic types :

a) honest guys who are clear and upfront about everything, and will bend over backwards to please the customer, especially if the fault or issue lies with themselves.

b) dicks who are rude assholes who let you know about it within the first 5 seconds of the conversation or first few words in an email. Not pleasant to deal with, but these guys are not thieves and the customer ultimately gets their product, despite some frustration along the way. For better or worse, the customer should at least be able to easily ascertain what they're getting into with this type of person.

c) guys who put on a good show, try their best to give the illusion they're of the type a personality to lure customers or make fake friends, but quickly do a 180 and turn into a type b or worse, by never fulfilling orders and keeping the money, or lying, or going back on their word, breaking promises, etc. Its this type that you really have to watch out for, but its almost impossible because of the unpredictability and lying that these people are all aboot.

The problem is, note the wide variety and extreme responses in this thread. This guy has seemingly exhibited parts of all 3 (or at least 2/3) of these types to different customers.

Almost 13 weeks and still nothing  Sorry to bump and old thread but this is the only place I can vent. This sucks. I'm tired of playing my Vypyr.

Wow, if a tech had my amp for 3+ months I'd be losing my mind. I really hope this is worth it for you and you get your amp back soon.

Jerry's a good guy, honest and dependable. Perhaps a phone call would have been better. Good luck with your amp though. If I was Jerry, I would send it back in a couple of sandwich bags.

So I'm the "bad guy" and should be punished? Interesting....
I think you're 100% justified in filing a public grievance. In the future, you may want to get a little more information before shipping your amp.

Let me just say "Fuck Jerry and FJA"! That is all..

Thats a super dick move from the amp modder. If you run a business no matter how small or big its very simple.
-When the amp gets there shoot an email n let them know its there. And not damaged
-Give some sort of estimate of when it'll be done.
-And if theres delays shoot a quick 30 second email saying hey man gonna be a few more weeks shit came up. Communication is everything.

This is a good thread, never heard of this fja modder guy, but i think a lot of people have learned, don't send your shit to him. This is why the internet is great. Anybody who feels the need to cover for somebody that screwed them out of money is insane. Respect is earned. If somebody had my amp for 2 months and didn't communicate damn right I would blast their shit all over the internet. Period! Its so easy to send a quick email, this is basic salesmanship. If they screw with your amp because of that take them to small claims court. It costs less than $100 in most cases, no need for lawyers.

WOW!! This is messed up!!! The bottom line is I don't care how great your product is, your reputation as a business person depends primarily on your customer service. EPIC FAIL!! I guess he needs to take customer service lessons from modders like Dan Gower and Trace from Voodoo Amps!!
