Not me...I don't like super high output pickups. The Aldrich is good, but just not my flavor.

Yeah the Aldrich is the only higher output pickup I have tried iv liked. It still has a paf'ish quality to it somehow but stays tight when your gunning your amp. Different strokes fur different folks I guess lol

In an alder bodied Charvel, I love the Duncan Custom for heavy rock to classic metal type sounds and the 59/Custom Hybrid for the brown sound.

The Custom 5 in this wood is a little scooped sounding and the Custom Custom is very spongy and saggy in the lows. It sounds very mid boosted in my opinion.

This all depends on the guitar and all four of these pickups can sound killer in the right guitar.

Thanks for all the input, guys :)

I'm going for the Duncan Custom. Nowhere local to me has a black, trembucker in stock so eBay it is.

Hey Curt, have you tried the Perpetual Burn, and no I don't mean a Taco Bell meal, pickup yet?

I have a perpetual burn in a mahogany/flame charvel and love it.Ive had a JB trembucker, and a few dimarzios, and alt 8 in it.My fav is definitely the becker. In this guitar its a bit tighter and lower mids than the jb.Its also low output so you can raise it up a bit closer to the strings..I also have a holydiver in a Jackson soloist and love it too.

Would you consider the PB a bright pup?

The Custom/59 hybrid checks all of your boxes: less mids, tighter bottom end and lower output. It's great for all styles IMO and my go-to pickup for a superstrat. Don't overlook it...

I know you weren`t asking me but I didn't think it was bright but it wasn't dark either , very balanced and sound killer under medium to high gain. Sounds like you`ve already ordered the Custom , give it a shot you might dig it

I haven't. I can get a PB locally so I'm still seriously considering it.

The Dimarzio Timmons pup (AT-1) is similar to/based on a JB.

I have a perpetual burn in my charvel. The only way I could describe the tone is a JB with the edges rounded off. I had a Duncan distortion as well as a custom (ceramic mag). As far as versatility I would say the perpetual burn covers the most ground. I have played the Duncan custom/hybrid in similar type guitars and my ears lean towards that over the perpetual burn.

^^^^^
Does the custom/hybrid have nice mids ?
I'm curious about that one since it's a mix of a 59 and custom 5 with the A5 mag.
Both of those pickups by them self have scooped mids , so with them wired together and still using the A5 mag i wonder how it sounds in the mid department .

It's not a mix with the Custom 5. The Hybrid is a mix of the '59 and the Custom.

The Custom (ceramic mag) , Custom Custom (A2) , and the custom 5 (A5) are the exact same pickup winding and build but with a different Mags .
So since the 59/Hybrid uses the A5 mag just like the 59 and Custom 5 does , i'm wondering where the fat mids are coming from.
My only guess would be the mix of the two different coils , one being low wound 42 wire and the other being higher wound with 43 wire .

I only know two guys who have given me feedback on the Perpetual Burn. One is Jcmlespaul who responded in this thread after you asked this and the other is a guy who works at Jackson. I know the guy who works at Jackson really digs it and Jcmlespaul likes his too but just commented that he prefers the 59/Custom hybrid...
