Anderson Drop Top or Suhr Standard?

I've got to go with Anderson. I am not sure why, but every single Suhr I have ever owned has played and felt stiff. Qc, fit and finish are equal. Anderson Pickups? The best.

Just one guys thoughts...

Try both and pick the one you like. Both are at the top of their game. I chose Suhr, because they feel more "at home" in my hands. I also prefer the Suhr pick ups. But, like I mentioned, both are tops. Tyler and Stevenson are two others in the same league that you may want to consider.

Both make great stuff but it's Anderson for me. After owning Suhr's and Anderson's, i like the way the Anderson's sound. Maybe it's the H2+ humbucker? I'm not sure, but a lot Suhr's I've played didn't have the balls i hear from Anderson's.

And they both make different neck shapes so you can't just play one guitar from either and say you don't like their neck shapes. That's like driving a Ford Fusion and thinking Ford can make a sports car.

Oh boy, thats a tough one...Ive been demoing them both lately at our local shops...and its true;...both have so many options but the dealers in your area may only have a few w/ only some options from each.....
My 2 pennies,
I LOVE the neck joint that TA has going-(probably the strongest& tightest ive seen from ANY bolt on guitar)...Suhr makes 24 frt guitars, and TA wont for some reason...The neck on TA drop tops somehow comes from the factory 100% perfect, the suhrs ive played locally needed a few minor neck adjust's-to be fair, thats expected on both guys...both make great pickups....Tom has stayed small,John has exploded lately-how that plays out down the road, time will tell....Tom has a killer 7 string out now...suhr will soon...John offers more "period correct" hardware for vintage strats/teles...Tom wont change up the formula on what he puts on his guitars at all for some reason....at this point for me,Im digging a drop top classic, and a 24 fretter from John....own one of each....kinda like if have a paul,ya gotta have a strat thing. :)

I personally prefer the Andersons, but sure offers more custom spec.

FWIW, the Suhrs I've liked best have all been basswood body with a maple top.

 cant go wrong with either, but i liked the neck on my anderson, then after awhile playing it, i freakin love the neck on my anderson :D im actually spoiled now and hate playing anything else

I have had minimal time on a Suhr and really liked it (from what I can remember). I love my Anderson guitars. Own both a Classic and a Drop Top. They were built just for me. IMO, you probably can't go wrong with either maker. Ultimately, I liked the "smaller shop" feel with Tom. When I called up to spec out my guitar I was made to feel like a valued "professional" musician. Roy spent about 30 minutes with me helping me make sure that what I was thinking was going to match with what I wanted to hear. What a great experience! They won me over.

I've had two of each.. I'd go with the Anderson myself as I really like the warmth they have..
I found the other to be a bit stiff as another poster stated..

@reverymike.. sweet looking Anderson you posted!!

It's really a personal decision, because they are both equally good.

What exactly makes a guitar "stiff"? Not sure I understand what that means.

New guitars always feel stiff to me. But I play floyds so the trem springs need to loosen up a bit.

Yeah, it's kind of tough to explain but "Stiff" to me is when I play it unplugged and don't get that "bell like chime" in the sustain and a real full bloom across it's freq range. I always play unplugged with the guitar for a bit when I pick one off the wall. The Andersons I've played just had this quality to them. Just my opinion of course..

Thanks! it's a '93. I love it! Kinda like the amber EVH musicman Eddie was using as his main guitar around that time. . .that was the inspiration.
