hahah this is great, anyone else get the feeling that they're watching a reality show? except for the fact that it's better than 95% of the crap on TV

oh, and anyone else seeing the Axe-FX primarily being used?

good stuff, new vid out tomorrow too, interesting to see what the other stuff shown is, all of them killer drummers

this is stupida. WHy cant they just be men and take the dude back. ??/ ?big joke, drama BS

This was totally cool. Watched it in fullscreen hd on my 27 inch imac cranked thru my apogee duet into krk 8 monitors. Sounded and looked awesome.
Bring on the next episode of my favorite new reality show. Petrucci was adjusting amp tones on his Axe Ultra but i wish he would upload some patches so i could try them out and learn some of his Axe Fx tweaking secrets  .

This was really cool. Can anyone tell me if John Myung is actually alive?

I have it through first hand knowledge that John Pertucci is using our own, Mark Days presets and his manager requested them directly from Mark so there ya go.

ps: I would love to see Bill Ward get the gig.

Just get Ian Paice some arthritis meds and send him in.

I'm not a DT fan but that vid was very entertaining. The level of technical musicianship is pretty amazing. Actually looking forward to the next vid. Is it just me or does Petrucci look weirdly proportioned? Pumping too much iron while still eating Pizza?

RE Derek Roddy's statement. He did know he was auditioning for Dream Theater right?
FWIW I have no idea who he is or what his playing is like.

Here's my pick..

That would be the end of Bill Ward, he has a bad ticker ya know.

On a more serious note, my #1 pick when I first heard about this was Mark Zonder from Fates Warning....didn't see him on the audition list though.

Thomas Lang I thought was great but surprised he was stumped on the jam.. Marco was really good as well but I think I kind of agree, soo far, Mangini is the best fit. Very interested to see aquiles priester and see how he fits in. He has great kick skills and control. Interesting how they don't want these guys to play any of the parts differently than how they were being played. I think they are looking for a portnoy vibe moving forward as well rather than letting someone else bring something a bit diff to the table. Virgil I thought sounded weak on the snare. Not his playing of it or his dynamics, but just the traditional grip seems to lend itself to less power in speed applications on the toms. Matched is the way to go for metal.

They dont really make the decisions based on what they want. They make the decisions based on what they know fans will want. Fans are going to dislike anyone who isn't portnoy right off the bat so they have to find someone as close to him as possible.

The theory side of things is probably because they put together songs in the studio right before recording and they need someone that doesn't need to WORK to write the drum parts. They just need someone who can churn out whatever they need on the spot and record ten minutes later.

Yep. That is my take also. Well, when does 3 come out?

That was entertaining as Hell!

With that said, What I got from the two videos so far is that all of them are Amazing drummers but I think Mangini's heart was more in the right place. What he said compared to everyone else will matter a lot IMHO. My feeling is that for most of the guys it sounded like this was a cool gig to have but Mangini actually personalized his intentions the best IMHO. This Isn't just a gig for him. He actually wants to be a part of the band and if Im being honest, the rest of the guys sounded like this would be a notch on their belt more then a home so to speak. Im just saying that there is a lot to be said about wanting to be a part of a band then just getting a gig because it's cool.
With that said Marco is an ANIMAL lol :D

Can't wait to see the others
