Anybody seen the Dream Theater drummer audition video yet

I like how Marco's "enthusiasm" got James laughing while trying sing.

I found Mangini's mannerisms while playing over the top and the "yeah it's so intense" facial expressions were like he was trying to pass a stone. I really dug the Virgil's unique style and the Austrian guy, Lang? was a great hitter. I imagine having them audition for my AC/DC meets Entombed dream project and see their heads exploding from sheer boredom!

That was entertaining as Hell!

With that said, What I got from the two videos so far is that all of them are Amazing drummers but I think Mangini's heart was more in the right place. What he said compared to everyone else will matter a lot IMHO. My feeling is that for most of the guys it sounded like this was a cool gig to have but Mangini actually personalized his intentions the best IMHO. This Isn't just a gig for him. He actually wants to be a part of the band and if Im being honest, the rest of the guys sounded like this would be a notch on their belt more then a home so to speak. Im just saying that there is a lot to be said about wanting to be a part of a band then just getting a gig because it's cool.
With that said Marco is an ANIMAL lol :D

Can't wait to see the others
My thoughts exactly.

Agreed with above statement also, this is the best "reality tv" I've ever seen!

this is stupida. WHy cant they just be men and take the dude back. ??/ ?big joke, drama BS
Mike doesn't want back in. He walked away to pursue other musical avenues. He was getting bored.

I know that if I was just about to start writing for a new album and my drummer said "hey, let's take a 5 year break and then come back and do the reunion thing..." I'd look for a replacement ASAP to keep things rolling.

since I don't really like dt's writing anymore, I think they should just go for the most technical...Virgil...and do crazier stuff

I guarantee that if Lars Ulrich auditioned, the DT guys would be speechless. Think about it.

speechless because A. he's so terrible, or B. he wouldn't stop talking long enough for them to say anything, thus they'd be speechless?

Exactly.

It looks a friggin' awesome band to be in. FUN! Hard work, but fun.

I would have loved to see Petrucci blast into a simple 12 bar blues for the jam phase...

No kidding.. DT is technically brilliant but to listen to it has become a snooze fest for me and i gave up on them probably after metropolis scenes from a memory (i think it was called). As for Portnoy, yeah the guy is amazing but no better than the 7 guys auditioning so I am not sure why DT fans are thumbs downing everything. I went to a Thomas Lang clinic a few years back, INCREDIBLE control and independence. All limbs were doing diff time signatures. I think technically he is probably above and beyond where Portnoy is yet he didn't rip off Neil Peart and record 20 years of DT material. So essentially what i am saying is.... Neil Peart is the only logical choice for DT!!! lol

I can't believe it hasn't leaked yet as to who it is, with technology the way it is, and it's surprising since I'll bet that numerous people who know where DT rehearse that haven't got a picture or anything in months. WTF

They must have an exclusive agreement with this guy to go to and from the recording studio with a black bag over his head so no one finds out.

I did Google it and don't see anything definite.

psst, its the first guy. ;)

whoever it is, i think for whatever reasons they pick him, will fit...as non committal as that sounds on my part!! hahah

every single guy was incredibly talented drumming wise...i find this absolutely fascinating to watch also...and im not really even the biggest DT fan...i love the way its put together and the presentation of it. it's well done.

minneman is my fave so far....his attitude just seems to be contagious and he truly appears to outwardly be stoked to be there.

I love Portnoy but think this will be a fresh breath of air for their music. I expect that they'll all be very inspired.
