Anybody seen the Dream Theater drummer audition video yet

Watched it yesterday. Mike Mangini is a killer drummer.
Pretty interesting look into the auditioning process.
I wonder what the others will be like?

 
I guarantee that if Lars Ulrich auditioned, the DT guys would be speechless. Think about it.
 
Mike Mangini is probably the best guy for the job, but I bet Derek Roddy will be awesome as well.

Great show I'm enjoying it a lot!
 
OK I am hooked in! When are the rest of the episodes coming?
 
That was pretty sweet. Great marketing material for the band also. I am going to follow this.
 
Awesome really enjoyable to watch.. Prieste (ex Angra) is also there but to be honest, not sure his style would fit. I don't think he is versatile enough but as a drummer myself, I think he is kick ass and was awesome in Angra so glad he was considered for his chops. Lang would be too much.. too much stuff going on.

He is my all time favourite drummer. Full stop. My favourite band is probably Porcupine Tree too so it would be a shame to see him levae PT for DT.
 
Most rumors point at Mike Mangini being the replacement, which would be fine with me. From the first day I heard MP was gone, I was pulling for Mangini from the start. I also thought Marco Minnemann would be excellent for DT. I'd really be happy with Mangini or Minnemann.

I doubt it'll be Derek Roddy, after reading this commment in response to the auditions:

"We jammed a little while....was cool but, the environment (in ears, video, etc...) didn't lend itself to a lot of creative moments...plus the fact that these guys we're trying to "jam" in odd times, etc....
Then they threw some riffs at me to see how quickly I could spit out complex stuff.
Now this...was fun but, at the same time....I could tell that they were looking for a dude that will come in....and record an entire record in the studio...on the spot.
I've never wanted to work that way..... as I believe that if the business (need to put out a record quickly) over trumps the musical vision (taking time and creating the best you can)
then that ultimately directs where the band ends up in the future.
I like to sit on riffs for a few days.... at least and create the best possible part (as opposed to the automatic one)
As far as the band being up front with their fans.......I'm sure they want too but, there are some legal issues that needs to be addressed and that takes precedence over what "can be said or announced".
I'm sure you guys can figure it out......and, I am certain that they knew who they wanted before these auditions were even thought about.
One thing that was said directly to me was....."whoever it will be.....it's got to be the fans choice...someone the fans are completely happy with".
I was very busy during that time period....only had a few weeks to learn a 20 minute song, a ballad, and a tech song with 30 part changes within the space of 3 minutes! Haha." -Derek Roddy

These. He really is the first person that comes to mind for me when thinking about who would be a great replacement.

I agree 100% with this... expecting someones best work on the fly is rather silly, and time waster for all involved.

I read it as they were looking for someone who had a better understanding of theory. Derek basically said that he is more of a feel player than a chart reading player. Personally, I tend to like feel players better but DT is looking for a technician who can play. I can understand that.
