They should audion for a new vocalist, guitar, keys, bass player and change the name. What a boring band.

congrats to mangini....wow, you guys a bucking frutal critical!!!

i dont love or hate DT, but i'd lie if i didn't say that rock discipline video from petrucci helped me plateau my playing way ahead of where i was at the time...hell, i'd thank him for that if given the chance.

Well, it was Mike Mangini after all. It's cool, I love Peter's drumming. He's my #1 choice with Mangini and Minneman as close second and third.

I will certainly check out their new stuff when it comes out.

+1 I thought they had some brilliant moments in their career but i think all that musicianship has gone stale... who would have thought being able to do soo much could get boring but it does. I also was underwhelmed by a few of their albums and stopped buying them. It just seemed like an endless jam at times. I was dissapointed that Aquiles struggled a bit playing with them and also dissapointed that they only covered his audition for a couple of minutes but what are ya gonna do, Mangini is the right guy for that gig.

And yeah, LAbrie is HORRIBLE live from what I have heard of him.

now thta they have mangini,
get rid of petruccci and get Nuno
get rid of labrie, get sebastian bach
get the deep purple guy, on keys

That's exactly how I feel...

glorified bar band with a singer who's sings like his balls are in a vice

^^^^^
I haven't liked dt since the late 90s, but dude, they are still better than every bar band or tribute band

I think the only member of the band that needs swapped is Labrie. If they had a decent vocalist/lyricist, that band would be great. I still enjoy them in small doses though. I feel Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence was their best, and prefer the Liquid Tension Experiment side project to most DT albums. There's more riffs, and less sing songy dorkiness.

I'm glad Mangini got the part. From the videos, it seemed like he was the most appreciative and excited about the offer. I think that matters much more than being professionally aloof when you're looking for a "family member" more than a business partner, as the DT dudes kept repeating. The ending was sappy, but I was expecting it from Mangini, if he was chosen.

You rather I weep in my tissue like their new drummer? He's just happy he has a job. LOL Glad you enjoy them. I find it to be boring.
If I need to hear technical music I''ll stick on Jethro tull who were better decades earlier and had a decent lead singer. Holdsworth, Bruford, UK, etc. Light years better, IMO
Rat Race Choir Ever hear of them? They blew these music school fags out of the water 3-4 decades ago.

I'm citing my opinion as a music LISTENER, Skippy, not a guitarist or band member.

You're comparing apples and oranges, and being a real dickhead about it too.

Mangini is a good choice IMO. He seemed by far the most stoaked too, so good for him. I think he'll be MUCH better than Portnoy.

I don't get the Petrucci hate here. I don't know how you can play guitar and not like him. The guy is an absolute beast and his riffs have a wicked groove to them. I do think Rudess has got to go though. He's an amazing player, but he just does far too much and takes the cheese factor up to 11. They need to at least make him tone it down several notches.

DT are one of my favorite bands, but I can see why some people don't like them. People who say Petrucci sucks baffle me though.

I agree. It's rock hard to have a keyboard player that doesnt add a touch of cheese though isn't it?

i'm not a DT fan, but that was pretty fun to watch.

think they made the right choice.

some damn good drummers.

Virgil might have been my pick, or the last guy.

Regardless of what perspective you're presenting your opinion from you're presenting it in a way that makes it difficult to take seriously. Kind of like how kiddies argue over the "best" flavor of ice cream.
