Starting a new band with a drummer, and I am already having a hard time creatively. My last band was a thrashy death metal band, but this time I'm trying to do something a little different. Keep it simple and bouncy. For some reason, everything we've been coming up with is sounding more and more like clutch, and I do not consider that anywhere near the style that I want to play.
If any of you out there are into this type of music, bands like madball, hatebreed, terror, even older styles like biohazard and older life of agony, and want to collaborate, or share some ideas, please let me know.

Thanks!

Stop picking with your wrist and palm muting. Swing your pick hand from your elbow and bang away at the strings. Get mad at it! Stop looking at your guitar, raise your head up and sneer at your drummer like he took the last beer. Poke your singer in the eye, then tell your significant other to shut up and make you a turkey pot pie. Lastly, pee on your bass players shoes. (But seriously, loosen up with your pick hand.)

This pretty much covers it all.

I'm in my forties and one of my regrets (mid-life crisis?) is never playing in a thrash/hardcore band. So many guys my age have no energy or aggression when they play. Plus, a lot of them suck.

If your right arm elbow is bent as you're playing ... your guitar is not hanging low enough.

How it's done:

Note the bent elbows and wrist picking... ;)

I played in Shai Hulud, however far more complex than typical hardcore Id say play more with feeling and less with theory, why not just learn/play along with some favorite songs for a while?

Throw us a drum track up here. I'm game. I'll spit in it's face n punch it in the mouth while giving it the middle finger!  I'm 43, but still play aggressive.

I like that style and often practice that way - although I need a lot more practice ;)

More metalcore stuff though. If you were into thrash and death and need to get a bit more bounce for hardcore/punk maybe pick up some KSE or Slipknot type riffs. Either are pretty transferable to other genres/riff structures.

My suggestion is to find out what are the main influences on these bands, and listen to those more.

I mostly play hardcore, but not always the quasi-numetal stuff you listed.

Yup!

I do.

Man, stuck in the 80's again, not just hair metal this time. I see this, I'm thinking Bad Brains, Black Flag, x-over stuff like DRI and ST (or very retro bands like Municipal Waste). My old school just got a little older :(

I asked for people to collaborate with. not lessons on how to play.
