Anyone put a V30 in their Thiele?

I'm thinking about picking up a Mesa Thiele cab to have another sound besides closed back and another size besides 4x12, but I've never been a big Black Shadow fan. The V30 always seems to work better for me. I know that Thieles are tuned for specific speakers- anyone tried putting a V30 in one, and how did it sound?

Thanks for the feedback.

Might just look for a 1x12 or 2x12 recto cab to have something more portable.

I had a V30 in a thiele for a little bit. Worked fine for recording, but no matter what I did with that cab, I could not get it to sound that good. Various speakers, various amps. Ended up getting rid of the cab altogether. The MC90 that it came with was terrible, IMO.

Watching vids on YouTube you can get a feel for the tone, but it's hard to get a feel for the punch. I like having an open back around for some styles of music, but by and large a closed back V30 is my tone. I've read that a Thiele is like having a small, portable 4x12 but never having played one it's a tough call with the mixed reviews I've read- guys seem to love it or hate it.

I tried a number of different speakers in my Thiele, but the EV it came with always sounded the best. Not boxy or small, which is what most of the others (including the V30) sounded like.

I've owned Thiele cabs, both with MC90 and EVM 12L's. For me the trick was to use 2 of them. I never liked one by itself, but a pair!!!!!! A pair sounds MASSIVE and you can spread them out and aim them for a real wall of sound. Just one with a combo amp also works well.

And yes, they do throw a lot of bottom end.

I used to have a pair of Randall Diavlo 1x12 ported cabs w/ V30s. They did sound massive, but when I cranked it they got very muddy. In hind sight I may have been running too much bass in the EQ for them, but still. Obviously a different (& inferior) design but I wonder if it gives me an idea.

I recently bought a Thiele loaded with a V30 to go with my JP-2C. It sounded okay, but it was a bit underwhelming. I ended up replacing the V30 with an EV 12L and have been very pleased with the results. Huge improvement.

Shopping around I'm seeing a newer Mesa Thiele with a C90, and also found an older Thiele with the EV speaker. Roughly the same price. I'm super tempted to try one, even though I know a sealed back Recto cab is a safer bet..

Same price, I would go for the EV. THe MC90 had this really hollow midrange tone that I could not dial out.
