Yea, I've always liked the 5150. :D

Had some troubles so had to sacrifice the Mark IV, so I got the 5150.

dude that sucks, how many markIV's have you owned now?
post how you like the 5150 vs. the markIV, and the randall. i liked the 5150II i had, but found it thin in the mids compared to the randall. it was a brutal amp, but just couldn't get along with the mids at all.

5150 thin in the midrange? Never heard that one before.

Mine had a thin midrange   ;)

I've been wanting to check those out for a while now. I just haven't had the extra cash to pull the trigger on a set. I also figured that just one would look kinda stupid.

Another strange pickup :

http://www.shadow-electronics.com/viewpro.html?id=86

Its an active PU with 6 EQ pots mounted right on top !
I own that pickup and it is fantastic.

Really ? Well spill the beans dammit ;)

Comparisons to other pickups, EMG, etc ?

Sorry about the delay! I haven't been online much.

They are very comparable to the EMG''s but the added EQ allows you to dial in more of the freequencies that you like or less of the freequencies that you don't like. The pickup comes with a chart that has settings for some of the most popular pickups. Its a very cool pickup if you like active pickups. if you don;t dig EMG's then skip it!!

The other cool thing is that you can increase the gain of the pickup by +15db with one of the trim pots. Its like running a boost in front of the amp.
All the EQ knobs on the pickup can be changed by using the tip of your guitar pick.

I hope this helps!!

dude i really wanted to like that amp, but my other guitarist was using my other randall, and he was just cutting my head off with it. the only thing the peavey had over the randall was low end, and didn't need a boost. i tried it at band practice for a week, and it had to go. i imagine two guitarists with 5150's would be awsome, but i was fighting it the whole time. i couldn't get it to have a fluid lead tone to save my life. i had it checked out by my local tech, and tried a hundred settings. eq in the loop, boost, and a lot of different shit. it was a thin amp. i'm really not dogging it, cause i can see where alot of people would dig it, just didn't work for me.

That must be the first design that Don Lace didn't steal from his Brother Melvin Lace of APC/ Adder pickups. Or maybe it's another idea/design that Don's ripped his brother off...
