Anyone still dig TNT

I used to listen to them all the time. Still like them.

I can't handle the poor sound quality of that clip...love the band though

Ready To Leave is still one of the best riffs and choruses to come out of the 80's metal scene IMO.

That is indeed a horrid sounding clip. I still like the old TNT, I have one album with this new singer...I don't care for him or the any of the songs on it though.

Would like to see Ronni do a serious side project or solo album that is actually good. After dumping tons of money buying the Japanese releases of most all of the stuff he's done, the only one that makes any regular appearances in my CD player is his Thin Lizzy tribute project Bad Habitz, anyone own that?

I will always like Ronnie's playing and his unique tone, but I went back and listened to some old TNT and have a hard time getting into it. The songs are pretty horrid and that high voice can be tiring on the ear.

They played too much commercial, gay, sounding stuff and I wished that they stuck to heavier stuff. They probably would have been more successful if they did.

I'm with you on these points.

I have also dumped tons of money on the ridiculous amounts of pure crap Ronni has recorded over the years. I'm talking about buying all of it. Finally, I give up. He has no interest in being a great guitar player any more and has been phoning in his leads for about 18 years now.

Still though, in his heyday he had one of the greatest rock guitar tones ever in my opinion. His soloing on the Knights of the New Thunder album made me think he was going to be the second coming of Rhoads.

No fair!
That's not a human arm, that's a monkey transplant arm. Look at how hairy it is. No wonder he could drill pick like that.

Realized Fantasies and Tell No Tales have to be a couple of my favorite tones of all time. Very different tones from one another but both still amazing! The intro to "Everyone's A Star" is fantastic, with its pissed off raunchy tone, however the song gets killed for me when the vocals come in.

Add me to that list. When I got Knights Of The New Thunder, I was hooked; a Total Ronni fanboi. It stayed that way through Tell No Tales and Intuition as well though the latter found the band really pushing the commercial envelope. Realized Fantasies was the start of the down hill slide though I liked a good chunk of it. After that, things got dicey and frustrating and I had to wonder what the hell Ronni was thinking..

I got to hang out with Ronni quite a bit back in the day and he was a really cool down to earth guy; Loads of fun to talk music with. I never talked gear with the guy because quite frankly, I had my head up my ass back then and didnt know anything compared to what I do today. I got to jam with him several times and that was a pisser but most of all , he was a funny cat and OMG, did that guy LOVE his Whacky Tobbacky!!!! I did to but he was on a whole other level..

I had a lot of hope when My Religion came out; To me, half of that album was really strong and I thought that were going back to their roots. The tone wasnt bad at all but it wasnt the same as the Ronni of old but I was cool with it. After that, just a string of disappointments. All I can guess is that he is doing his thing regardless of general consensus and is happy in his own world. Hes a star in Norway and doesnt care much beyond that or so it would appear...

TNT with Tony Harnel is one of my favorites of all time

Same here....huge fan...."Intuition" was epic to me when it came out. I loved Tony's voice...nothing gay about it.

Diehard fans should check out their last Album, A Farewell To Arms. They set out trying to recapture the vibe of their ealry stuff and didnt do a half bad job of it IMHO. The new singer Tony Mills doesnt do a bad job either and is fairly reminiscent of Harnell... Not saying the album is a masterpiece but it doesnt suck and is worth checking out if youre a Ronni/TNT fan...

I'm right there with you guys on TNT's early work. That fucking Seven Seas video was the shit. When Knights came out I was totally hooked. Le Tekro was the man through the rest of the 80s for me. I lost interest in their music after Intuition. Tony still has incredible range. I've seen some live clips of TNT from 2006-2007 and Tony hasn't lost any of his range it seems.

One thing I've been curious about all these years is Ronnie's Quarterstepper Guitar. Anybody know more about it? Played it?

~edit~ I found a picture of his Quarterstepper with some brief info here: http://rltekro.hardrockhaven.net/gear.php

Live, Tony had his moments, Most of the time , he really didnt have the same range as the studio work but still sounded great.

as for the quarter stepper, I saw it and all I know is that it was built by this dude bernie hamberger( or something like that)

Here is some more info;

Thanks. I found one of those links also. . .

Here is an example of the strange sounds that can be had with that Quarter Stepper. Listen to Ronnie's solo:

Having not been to most of the TNT live shows, I cannot personally attest to Tony not having the same range live as he did in the studio. The gig I went to he sounded great and the live footage I've seen online show him nailing it, like this one from 2006.
listen to him hit that note at about 2:40

first two discs were great! I lost interest in the sappy , ballad driven Intuition disc...

Harnell is an excellent singer, one of the very best in the high octave metal style IMO.

I really don't have any desire to listen to them these days though.
