Diehard fans should check out their last Album, A Farewell To Arms. They set out trying to recapture the vibe of their ealry stuff and didnt do a half bad job of it IMHO. The new singer Tony Mills doesnt do a bad job either and is fairly reminiscent of Harnell... Not saying the album is a masterpiece but it doesnt suck and is worth checking out if youre a Ronni/TNT fan...

Yeah I was listening to one of the tracks lastnight. Seems pretty good.

AFTA is a great album. It has some great hooks and overall is a pretty well produced album.

Really dug the band back in the day. Saw them once and they were good. Hasnt really stood the test of time for me now. Tone only goes so far for me. Hoped he would have branched out abit in his playing, but he's pretty much stuck on about three licks. There are a few tunes that are good but I'd rather listen to other stuff these days.

Yeah, Im the same boat as you George and as I told you, not only did I practically worship the band, I got to hang with Ronni from time to time. I think that you summed it up well..for me at least. Ill still check out everything that do due to my past devotion but I go into it expecting to be underwhelmed. This way, the few cool tunes that he puts out are a pleasant surprise...

I tried the TNT tone tip from Chubtone/Ralph with the Boss BF-2 and it sounded great after my boost pedal into a JCM 800. There was a big thread on RT about this a year or so ago.

Still have a short clip up I made of that signal chain actually.

"My Religion" is one of the best albums they did. I haven't gotten into the Tony Mills stuff. Amazing band, with a very spotty history.

The intro to "Everyone's A Star" is fantastic, with its pissed off raunchy tone, however the song gets killed for me when the vocals come in.

Yet you were raving about the singer in Steelheart?

Oh silly Curt there is a difference between someone who appears to be vocally and most likely classically trained and someone who has a huge range but doesn't know how to use it. Miljenko Matijevic is the man! I'll bring by some Steelheart by my next stop in and you'll be a believer.

huh? So you're saying Tony Harnell doesn't know how to use his vocal range?

Oh silly Quinn, at the time........ we were all searching for a male singer that had the range and power of Tony Harnell. To many of us he was the ideal singer. He has power and even though he is singing in a higher range, his voice has a much fuller quality to it than the guy in Steelheart. That guy's voice is so thin I can't stand it. He reminds me of Mark Slaughter with that Micky Mousey helium sound to his voice. So thin. Harnell still sounds like a male vocalist with a high range. The Steelheart guy sounds like someone kicked a young boy in the Mormon Tabernacle choir in the nuts.  They might be singing in the same range but the Steelheart guy sounds like his vocal pipes are the size of a straw.

And let's face it, they did use the castrati from Stellheart for some of the vocals in the Rock Star movie, but even they realized he was way too wussy sounding for some of them and they had to bring a man in (Jeff Scott Soto) to sing some of the tunes.

And you can't stand the vocals on this tune:

but like this vocalist?

To each their own brotha. I can barely stomach this Steelheart tune playing in the background while I type this. Such a thin, nasal quality to his voice in the upper register.
