Anyone Use EL84 Amps In Your Live Rig For Metal?

I've had better luck with 6V6 amps than EL84, but it seems like a lot of Youtube guys are getting fantastic metal tone from EL84 amps. Aside from recording and practice, how would one handle metal in a live show? Enough punch and low end? Enough definition? A guy I know says he plays everything from Sabbath to Metallica with his Bogner Atma. Another guy I know swears his Mark 25 kicks all kinds of ass through a 4x12. I've played both, but never live or through a 4x12, so I wouldn't really know. I'd imagine the low end would mush out. What is your experience?

The only amps i have personally heard with EL84's that sound amazing were the Mark V:25 and the Friedman pink taco. Both sounded AMAZING live and had plenty of punch and slam for metal live. A buddy of mine loved his Mark V:25, his only complaint was how often he would have to replace his EL84's in comparison to his Orange that used EL34's ( i guess EL84's lifespan is very short in comparison ).

Been there done that (not live but loud rehearsals with hard hitting drummer), would rather use SS power amps really.

My Friedman Runt 20 sounds great playing Sabbath, ALICE In Chains, Priest. No problem keeping up with a drummer.

My Friedman modded Jet City 20H and my Jet City Custom 22 both sound damn good for metal. Both have been just loud enough to not get buried by the drummer, and have gigged with them a couple times.

I was at a punk gig a few weeks ago and there was a gut who sounded good on his mesa recto 25.

I don't play super heavy metal. More like Iced Earth, Maiden, Metallica, etc. The Ultra channel on the H&K Grandmeister Deluxe 40 does it well. A buddy uses his for heavier than what I play.

Cornford Hellcat is EL84 and easily does boosted JCM800 kinda metal sounds.

I love my PT-20. Boosted I’m sure it slays for metal. I play heavy rock so I don’t boost.
I never would have thought this about 84’s, but I don’t care what it has in it, that amp sounds killer.

After playing an Orange TH30 I would say it's very doable.
