Avenged Sevenfold?

City of Evil had some cool riffs and a hint of originality to it. Other than that they pretty much are becoming the Nickelback of "popular" metal. "Yell, Riff, Repeat"

does avenged sevenfold compare to some of my favorite albums? no. i like some of their songs a lot though....

as opposed to the other "radio" music out there, i'd rather my kids listen to them in the car with mom than kesha, etc.

are they the greatest band i've ever heard? no.

I can take them in small doses, stylistically speaking but to say they aren't good players is ridiculous. I thought they had some good stuff on that Nightmare album.

Where is it? I surely haven't heard it. That record is nothing more than basic and processed. Is that the best they could do? I mean, their drummer had just died, and they claimed they "poured everything they had" into that record. Hell, they even employed Mike Portnoy for that record, yet they STILL failed to make a record hardly worth listening to.

Just for shits and giggles, here's some of "Syn's" handiwork. In the first video, the playing isn't only sloppy as hell, but it could all be the same song. As for his few little sweep-picking licks, he's not even remotely good at it. Please let me know how this garbage is any better than anything Mick Mars has ever done, because this all sounds very repetitive to me, the same that's been said about Mick Mars.

Now, hey, I'm sorry to hurt the sensitive feelings of Synyster Gates fans, but I'm pretty sure the videos of his "awesome" playing speak for themselves. As for the guy who jumps in, slinging insults and "LOLZ," he's already thrown any little bit of credibility he had right out the window, acting like a small child who's incapable of holding any sort of intelligent conversation. While I didn't grow up with Avenged Sevenfold, I did enjoy a few songs from their debut album, all of Waking the Fallen & Avenged Sevenfold, only the first 3 songs in City of Evil, and a handful from Nightmare. I've only seen them live once which was back in winter 2011, though I would've most likely enjoyed their performance had I instead seen them during their peak.

I didn't particularly enjoy their latest album, but one thing I noticed was how eerily similar one of their songs was to another I've heard years before.

I've found that people who come to a new forum (especially a chill one like this) and immediately react this way fall into one of two categories: 1) They are current members of this forum who have re-registered with a new screen name; or 2) They have pissed off everyone at other forums so badly that no one will talk to them.

Now, I don't care which of these two categories you fall into, but I won't waste my time with either one of them. However, if you can scrape up an ounce of humility and try to start again, you'll find people here are pretty forgiving.
