Avenged Sevenfold?

City of Evil had some cool riffs and a hint of originality to it. Other than that they pretty much are becoming the Nickelback of "popular" metal. "Yell, Riff, Repeat"

i dont mind them. i listen to it for what it is.....pop guitar rock.

does avenged sevenfold compare to some of my favorite albums? no. i like some of their songs a lot though....

as opposed to the other "radio" music out there, i'd rather my kids listen to them in the car with mom than kesha, etc.

are they the greatest band i've ever heard? no.

What a fuktard....Contempt prior to investigation... That's like,, oh forget not waste my time troll!!!!!!

Did I say I was an expert? Clearly you don't know shit if you think Synyster Gates is actually good. What are you, 15? Run along, and just shut the fuck up while you're behind, junior. Go listen to your Asking Alexandria and Bullet For My Valentine records.
Dude, this is an internet opinion board. Why get so personally insulting? Do you just prefer to stir up shit? Because you can get a lot more out of Rig Talk than just back and forth mud slinging. It's a great group of guitarists here. It really is possible to have a civil conversation. You'll find people will respect you and your opinions much more if you do.

As it is, a new member with only 7 posts - RT members are going to write you off as the douchebag you are acting like. I'm not saying you are a douchebag (you're way too new here for anyone to know that). But you sure are acting the part. You are the one coming across like an arrogant teenager. Chill out and enjoy this place.

I can take them in small doses, stylistically speaking but to say they aren't good players is ridiculous. I thought they had some good stuff on that Nightmare album.

Where is it? I surely haven't heard it. That record is nothing more than basic and processed. Is that the best they could do? I mean, their drummer had just died, and they claimed they "poured everything they had" into that record. Hell, they even employed Mike Portnoy for that record, yet they STILL failed to make a record hardly worth listening to.

Just for shits and giggles, here's some of "Syn's" handiwork. In the first video, the playing isn't only sloppy as hell, but it could all be the same song. As for his few little sweep-picking licks, he's not even remotely good at it. Please let me know how this garbage is any better than anything Mick Mars has ever done, because this all sounds very repetitive to me, the same that's been said about Mick Mars.

Now, hey, I'm sorry to hurt the sensitive feelings of Synyster Gates fans, but I'm pretty sure the videos of his "awesome" playing speak for themselves. As for the guy who jumps in, slinging insults and "LOLZ," he's already thrown any little bit of credibility he had right out the window, acting like a small child who's incapable of holding any sort of intelligent conversation. It prides me to see people like him seem to be in the minority here.
So let me get this straight.....you dont care for the band? Wasnt sure if this was made clear or not in your post.

While I didn't grow up with Avenged Sevenfold, I did enjoy a few songs from their debut album, all of Waking the Fallen & Avenged Sevenfold, only the first 3 songs in City of Evil, and a handful from Nightmare. I've only seen them live once which was back in winter 2011, though I would've most likely enjoyed their performance had I instead seen them during their peak.

I didn't particularly enjoy their latest album, but one thing I noticed was how eerily similar one of their songs was to another I've heard years before.

Compare these two:

Avenged Sevenfold - This Means War:

Metallica - Sad But True

I never could get into them. I went to see them play when Portnoy was drumming for them, guess its not my thing.

Are you kidding me? Are you saying I'm the one who came in here and started slinging insults? Didn't you even bother to read the post I was responding to? And then you're gonna tell me I stirred up shit?

Yeah, you're right, this is an "internet opinion board," as you called it, and I stated my opinion, only to be called a "fuck," amongst other things, for NO REASON AT ALL, other than STATING MY OPINION, so how are you gonna sit here and tell me I'm the douchebag? Did I come in here, calling people names? I don't think so.

And since when does post count equate to anything? Am I on a forum full of teenagers, because if I am, I will be more than happy to be on my way! Arrogant? I'm not arrogant, I just prefer to converse with people intelligent enough to hold a civilized conversation.

You are proving my point. It's all about YOUR reaction here.

Your post count is significant in one single way... it means you haven't interacted with people on this forum much. It's like you moved to a new area and are meeting new people. You can choose to be civil, get the feel of the place, and be part of it. Or you can respond hastily and in a rude manner. You've chosen the latter. Your choice. But now we know the kind of person you are.

I've found that people who come to a new forum (especially a chill one like this) and immediately react this way fall into one of two categories: 1) They are current members of this forum who have re-registered with a new screen name; or 2) They have pissed off everyone at other forums so badly that no one will talk to them.

Now, I don't care which of these two categories you fall into, but I won't waste my time with either one of them. However, if you can scrape up an ounce of humility and try to start again, you'll find people here are pretty forgiving. But if you continue this ridiculous behavior, you're going to be pretty lonely here.

Don't forget about their "remake" of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck," redubbed and re-lyric'd as "Hail to the King." :D

No worries, bud. I see what kinda people I'm amongst. You know, that "clique" type, don't ya? The ones where their little buddy insults somebody, then that person responds back, then you all rush to his aid to back up his asshole behavior? Yeah, let's just call a spade a spade. Sounds like that's what I've run into on this forum.

As for my last post being rude, you're just upset I disagreed with you. At no point in my post was I rude to you, I simply disagreed with you.

Yep, that's right, I know what kind of person you are.

Just curious, what's the average age of the members on this forum? I'm not interested in wasting my time talking to a bunch of skinny-jean wearing, bullied emo kids with shag haircuts and Converse All-Stars, I prefer to associate with a more mature clientele. No disrespect, that's just simply my opinion of what I've possibly run into here, especially given all this love for a sorry-ass guitarist like Synyster Gates. The only reason anybody would ever even think this guy was good was because Guitar World told'em so.

WEll if you ask.....average age is 14-18.....there are some 'Old dudes' in their 20's on here but we dont take them seriously.
This board leans heavy on Justin Bieber and Old skool Hanna Montana (before she got fat)
Yeah I like to rock skinny jeans myself(Slight ass crack showing) when I hang out in school.
Whats the problem Bro?
