Dude, our clique had a meeting last night. Good news...we all decided that Nails- while potentially grating- is now permitted to join the other non-A7X threads in intelligent discussion. Despite your CC & Mars love, I vouched for you based on your passion for original music
You'll be a pledge for awhile until you earn your keep.

YAY! Lemme just jump right up and throw myself a party! I'm gonna party like it's 1999! :D

Seriously, dude, I don't have any love for C.C. DeVille, I simply said his solos were memorable. That doesn't imply they were technical wonders, it implies they fit the songs and sounded good in the songs. As for Mick Mars, as mentioned prior, the guy can play some acoustic and will surprise a lot of people. I don't think Mick's the best guitarist on the planet, but I respect him for what he's contributed to his genre of music. I've never heard a solo in a Motley Crue song that didn't fit the song. No, he never wowed anyone, but his playing is a case of "less is more."

While we're at it, want me to get started on Kerry King? Don't get me wrong, I love Slayer, but Kerry King has gotta be one of the worst guitarists in music. His solos (if that's what you wanna call'em...) make my ears bleed and my cats hide under furniture. I'm just gonna say it...I'd rather listen to a shit-ass Synyster Gates solo than one from Kerry King. :bleh:

As for originality, we're all going to take a page from the sound of our guitar heroes, but when someone goes out and deliberately attempts to achieve that hero's sound, it's just not cool. I could never understand why the fuck anyone would wanna emulate someone else's creations, and I still don't. Why spend all the time practicing just so you can sound like someone else? It's the same story with cover bands. Yeah, I can appreciate the time and effort someone put into playing "Eruption" note for note, but what else can he/she do? I think it's fairly safe to say we all like Dimebag Darrell and Randy Rhoads, and we'd all aspire to be just as successful in our playing, but do we really wanna sound just like they do?

It may come as a surprise (smell the sarcasm...) but I'm not a great guitar player, but I have been playing long enough to know a good guitarist from a bad one, and a player with technical aptitude from one without. I've had opportunities to learn all the basic dumb shit like "Smoke on the Water," Stairway to Heaven," blah blah blah, but quite honestly, I've never held any interest in learning anyone else's shit. IMO, once you start playing somebody else's shit, you're gonna start to sound just like him/her. I have no interest whatsoever in taking pages from anyone else's book in my playing. IMO, the biggest insult someone could possibly give a musician (I wouldn't even consider myself a musician...) is, "Hey, that sounds just like _______."

There are two schools of thinking on learning other peoples' shit. Some teachers will tell you the best way to learn is by playing other peoples' shit, as it helps to develop the musical "vocabulary," while the other one will tell you it's better to explore on your own. For me, I choose to explore on my own.

So, what's with the hate for Synyster Gates? It's not a hate for Synyster Gates, it's a hate for his playing, or lack thereof. Guys like Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, and the rest of that genre have no aspirations to improve their playing or technique. They have no intentions of furthering their musical vocabulary or developing a better skill set, they're perfectly content with floundering just where they are now, with just enough skill to slide by. Listen to an Avenged Sevenfold record from seven years ago, then listen to their current one, and there is absolutely no substantial improvement in technique or creativity. Listen to a lot of the old-school artists and with each record, you can hear an improvement or something new you didn't hear on the last one.

The stuff I read from the members in that band make them out to be pretty much down to Earth.

With rap....,I mean crap, hip hop, pop, and other forms of audio Diarrhea we have here in the states it's good to see ANY hard rock band do well.

Zacky's fellow guitarist Synyster Gates chipped in, saying, "I hope we're not the Last of the Mohicans when it comes to putting on a big, crazy, over-the-top theatrical rock show. This is what we grew up on, with bands like Maiden and Metallica, and I really hope we're not the last of a dying breed. "We want to blow kids' minds just as we had our minds blown by massive shows when we were growing up," Gates added. "Metal should be spectacular and dramatic and thrilling. When kids invest their time and money in coming to see us, we owe it to them to give them the best night of their lives."

This. The days of their flash and outrageous appearance and behavior is gone- the only thing that remains is their live show, the production of which is always stunning and above ANYTHING out there today. People may piss and moan that they don't have the talent of earlier bands- and maybe they don't, in a lot of ways- but they and a few select other bands will be the ones to carry the torch in the face of overwhelming amounts of pop music that threatens to wipe rock as a genre out of existence in popular music.

Ever been to a KISS concert? I'm fairly certain they put on a better show than Avenged Sevenfold. Despite their ages, they still have more energy than 95% of the bands out there today. Most of them just stand there onstage, looking depressed. Want an outrageous show with flashes and bangs, they're your ticket. I've seen far more musically talented bands than KISS, but from a "show" perspective, I'm yet to see one who comes remotely close.

Yeah, I forced myself into viewing an Avenged Sevenfold show on YouTube yesterday, and I'll give them credit for their live show, but sometimes a band needs more than a show. The music just falls short of their show. Despite having absolutely no respect or appreciation for their weak, flaccid music and lack of any real musical talent, I'd probably enjoy their live show.

As for being the last to carry the torch for Metal, don't bet on it; the Scandinavians don't show any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Kiss!  You couldn't pay me to go to a Kiss concert.

Well, I wouldn't pay to see'em with Tommy Thayer or Eric Singer, either! Without Ace and Peter, they are nothing.

I'm guessing you could smoke Synister Gates. lol, I doubt it. The dude can play. You must have hearing problems or something. Just the guitar harmonies alone are pretty complicated. And, you come in here on the attack and then cry about people getting their backs up.  I mean if you don't think they can play, maybe you should post some of your musical masterpieces. It makes me wonder if you can even play. :jerkit:

Who's crying? I'm not the one hugging Synyster Gates' nuts. And I can hear just fine, and unfortunately I've heard Synyster's worse than shitty music. Then, you're going to claim I can't play. Sounds like a challenge. Prove YOU can play, big man.

I don't have to prove anything, big man. I could give a shit less if you can play. But the fact that their music is fairly complicated, it just baffles why you would think that covering their music would be like playing a poison cover. It's just inaccurate. To play their guitar harmonies alone is fairly complicated and the dude has to be able to play to even play those. That's why I would question if you can play or even understand music?

But then again, your posts are so ridiculous that they must just be some kind of joke because they are so freakin retarded. Seriously, I just laugh my ass of every when each one of your posts come in. Just because you sound so fucking stupid, it must be a joke. So keep them coming because I enjoy a good laugh. Or, what did they use to call those in the old days of the intrawebz......a troll post.

And, welcome to the board, It's always good to have some entertainment. Hell we haven't had a great thread like this in a long time.

This thread does not deliver. Was expecting to see some cutting heads videos from Nails In Coffin vs the rest of Rig Talk (or vs YouTube vids of Sinister Gates at least).

PLEASE post something "complicated" by Avenged Sevenfold...PLEASE. I'm yet to hear it! A fucking beginner could play ANYTHING off "FAIL of the King," and Nightmare, well...that lived up to its name all its own. Not even the presence of Mike Portnoy could help that turd of a record.

So, yeah, please, post something "complicated" by Avenged Sevenfold.

So you think that the harmonies and solos in bat country are simple? Serously, you must be a prodogy. LMFAO. Oh, I forget it is much simpler than Shout at the Devil and Talk Dirty to me. As I said your post just shows your stupidity. I'm sure you're a much better writer than them. You just haven't caught your break yet. Haha. You probably don't even know what a guitar harmony is.

figured it out....
Nails in the Coffin really is................

It all makes sense now.

This board is obsessed with comparing the not-so-great players/bands of different eras. CC compared to Synyster? Who the fuck cares?!

80's had major innovators like Eddie, Randy, and Yngwie...tasty though inconsistent/incomplete players like Lynch...and totally underrated monsters by any era's standards like say MacAlpine.

Modern times...shit, Jeff Loomis, Govan, Romeo, the list goes on forever.

Bashing the 80's based on the sillier/less talented aspects is as retarded as labeling all modern music as "screamo" or putting A7X as the poster child. Awesome players/bands from all eras...some just feel more like "home" depending on your history.

Good point on the innovators from this generation, and I'm going to be willing to bet that Synyster Gates will not be found ANYWHERE on that "Forever" list. While I'm not really into Loomis', Govan's, or Romeo's styles, they are incredibly talented guitarists. They can definitely play their asses off.

I saw George Lynch play a few years ago. I had HUGE expectations for him, but he just FAILED. Not once did he acknowledge the crowd, and his playing was a mess. Ironically, from everyone I've talked to who has ever seen George Lynch, or met him (I also met him...), have never had anything good to say about him. The "par for the course" tends to be, "Everyone has huge expectations of George Lynch, only to be let down." George Lynch did NOT deliver. He was basically stumbling all over the stage. I can't be certain whether he was drunk, but he was stumbling around the stage like he was.

^ hahaha

While we're all bashing CC: he seems like a cool dude. I think he's acknowledged that he's no virtuoso; he just plays in Poison and is cool with that.

CC is one of the guys I look up to actually.
Poison was huge when I was a teen and learning guitar.

Ah, so the truth comes out! You are the real CC Deville fan!

hit edit hit edit! Take it back! Your exposing yourself!

I saw George Lynch in AZ 2 years ago and he was great!
He plays here often and my buddy's band opens for them- he brings them on stage at the end of the night for group jams.
Pretty cool dude in my book...albeiyt a bit gouging on the guitars for sale

But let's get back on topic and discuss what we all love: A7X...why can't Zacky Vengence get a solo once in awhile
I just watched the Bat videoes on page 1 and those solos are hi level cool in my book- the dude is fluid.
The post where he gets ripped on includes a session where he's teaching a large room of young kids- that's way cooler than Mars drinking/drugging himself into a mannequin freak

Ha! My Mom played it to me when I was in the womb.
I came out alive and kickin to Pearl Jam.
Slowly evolved into the #1 Avenged seven fold Fan that you see before you.

I don't really like Avenged 7 Fold, but this thread makes me really want to just to piss off the troll. I think Nails in Coffin is a very subtle, reverse psychology A7X troll. Well done.
