I don't really like Avenged 7 Fold, but this thread makes me really want to just to piss off the troll. I think Nails in Coffin is a very subtle, reverse psychology A7X troll. Well done.

I saw George Lynch in AZ 2 years ago and he was great!
He plays here often and my buddy's band opens for them- he brings them on stage at the end of the night for group jams.
Pretty cool dude in my book...albeiyt a bit gouging on the guitars for sale

But let's get back on topic and discuss what we all love: A7X...why can't Zacky Vengence get a solo once in awhile
I just watched the Bat videoes on page 1 and those solos are hi level cool in my book- the dude is fluid.
The post where he gets ripped on includes a session where he's teaching a large room of young kids- that's way cooler than Mars drinking/drugging himself into a mannequin freak

Well, so sorry to disappoint you, but Mick is not drinking and drugging himself into oblivion, he's hunched over because he's in pain from a spine-degenerative disease he has.

As for not seeing any of Zacky's solos, it's probably because he's incapable of playing one remotely close to anything anybody would wanna hear.

80's had major innovators like Eddie, Randy, and Yngwie...tasty though inconsistent/incomplete players like Lynch...and totally underrated monsters by any era's standards like say MacAlpine.

Modern times...shit, Jeff Loomis, Govan, Romeo, the list goes on forever.

Bashing the 80's based on the sillier/less talented aspects is as retarded as labeling all modern music as "screamo" or putting A7X as the poster child. Awesome players/bands from all eras...some just feel more like "home" depending on your history.

Funny that you use those guys as an example of modern times when they're all in their 40's.

CC is one of the guys I look up to actually.

When these guys come up with something as good as Back in Black or Shout, somebody let me know... Michael Angelo Batio can play circles around most any guitar player but couldn't write a song or riff to save his wig. Talent, creativity, and originality, not many bands have, use, or mix the three in a good way much these days no matter what the ratio of each they possess.

Over the past several years I haven't played as much I used to, but that's life as other things come up.
I've played gigs, done studio recording, live sound, and basically been around music for the majority of my life.
That's all you need to know to answer your question.

Well, I'm an 80's guy who "kind of" keeps up with the times, so modern to me is anything past 1989

OK, somewhat younger examples (closer to Synyster's age for comparison)...Tosin, Laiho, Jari Mäenpää, Stéphan Forté. Not saying 80's guys should dig the styles of these players, but these are the types of players that I think represent the era better.

Nickelback versus Pre-Nuno Extreme? A7X versus Poison? I just hear these things thrown out and back to my original point...debating different eras and players is cool, but at least pick some decent content to start with.
