I saw that Mark had posted about the reactor but rather than just reply to that one I thought it would be easier to just have its own thread.
First off thanks again, to Mark who is truly one of the nicest and coolest guys to hang out with on top of being an incredible guitar player.
So, I drove down to Limelight yesterday to check out the Axe 2 as well as the Atomic 50/50 and the Matrix power amp that had just arrived.
I got the chance to hear it" in the Room" with Mark playing it at a pretty good stage volume. I can honestly say that no you tube video, soundcloud posting is ever going to give you the experience of standing next to the actual cabinets.
Mark First played through the CAA head using the ultra for a bit of Delay Etc ,It was loud and would've have cut through just about anything ,rocked big time.
Then he switched over to the Atomic 50/50 and the Axe 2 and pulled up and Uber sim..I have to tell ya .it was VERY VERY close Scary actually, I would venture to guess that if you were blindfolded many would not be able to tell. The Atomic was very loud and very punchy and this was only one side with the Volume ay half so maybe 25 or 30 watts.
Next up was the Axe into the matrix ,Right away it seemed a bit tighter and more low end, it didn't have quite the depth .but certainly sounds good and would be an awesome choice for a small and light weight rig .I liked it better than the Art SL2 I had heard before and while there was nothing really lacking in it ,there was just something about the Atomic that gave it the edge IMO.
Mark , then plugged me with my guitar into his setup ,the CAA first so you can hear it , and get the "feel" .
We moved over to the Axe 2 into the 50/50 playing with the Uber and Marsha sim ,He even quickly dialed in the CAA lead sim and made a few tweaks..
There was NO Noticeable difference in FEEL and the sound again was eerie close, also I believe the CAA Mark has is EL34???? (He can correct me) ,vs the 6l6 in the atomic. I would venture to guess if you put EL34s into the Atomic you may even come even closer.
Although ,I am no where near the player of Marks caliber there are certain things I look for in my guitar sound. The open strings and how they ring out . the intro to the Scorps Tease me please me is a good example .I also look for and amp where I can pull pinch harmonics out easily without a fight and , and finally a low end chug that while is tight has a bit of give and chew as well.
I can honestly say the Axe2/Atomic rig does this as well as the amps i use.
I know it is hard to convince someone on the clips alone but this thing does react very much as you would expect it to .I am also reminded of Reinholds comment of a preamp/ power amp combo will never sound exactly like a head which is true I think .Regardless this rig does a hell of a job of getting close and even if it doesn't nail a Cameron or a Jose ,Deizel It is inspiring and fun to play
Hope this Helps !!!!
Thanks again Mark
