Cool xperience. Nice to hear the Matrix was that close. Maybe with a bit of dialing the axe in the Matrix would have topped the Atomic.

I've had the the Matrix for about two months, been driving it with a Digitech GSP 1101 into an Orange 2x12, and other musos have told how good the rig sounds. I feel a bit like I'm cheating on my Orange Thunderverb, I haven't used it in weeks - wait until the Axe-Fx II turns up so I can bin off my rack mounted pedals, tuner and GSP 1101.

Anyway I definitely recommend the GT 800FX to anyone going down the digital route. It is also a lot lighter than my mate's VHT power amp, which he's sold in favour of a Matrix (he's getting old and I think he may not like the bills to get his back sorted ).

Back to what DADA said, it could be case of dialling it in. My mate with the VHT had to dial his Axe FX Standard in, and I had to dial my GSP in - but it was worth it, and still is.

Whilst the loudness would be a function of power + cabs efficiency we are hoping that the 520 watts into a 16ohm cab should be enough to take most people to the point that they dont want to turn it up anymore

If not, there is always the 2000 watt beast we created for someone else. ( Our current limit would be 2 channels at 1600 watts a channel into 16 ohms, but we are having a hard time finding a cab that it wont destroy )

Thats a very very high amount of watts where ear functions will vanish.

But the smoothness of these nice watts are indeed very enjoyable and helps overcome your tube addiction also in the normal watts area. Besides guitar amplification the GT800FX is used for home, bass guitar and PA amplification with the same highly enjoyable sound quality.

Because you save on yearly tube expenses this amp will be free for you in about 2-5 years depending the amount of tubes you have. Thus, welcome to the 21st century.

I picked up an Axe-FX II and absolutely love it. I'm currently just running it into the MP3 jack on my Blackstar 1 watt amp, into my Marshall 4x12 with V30s and get a pretty good sound.

I'm a bit torn on what to do because I want to pick up a power amp but am not willing to shell out another $1,000 for a power amp, power speakers, or whatever else. I think the Atomic stuff is outstanding, especially for Axe-FX users but I already paid $2600 for the Axe-FX II (money well spent!) and just don't think this ever ends. You buy the footswitch and some powered speakers and you could get a car.

I saw some clips (one of Mark's) with the Atomic Mono Power Block and seems like a good alternative to the more expensive stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a rackmount power amp like the Matrix but seems a bit pricey for a solid state amp.

I used to have a Mosvalve MV-962 and that amp sounded great with a TECH-21 PSA-1 I had years ago. People used to walk up to me after gigs and wonder where my Dual Rectifier was. I'd show them my rack and they would be blown away.

Any suggestions on a nice, cheaper sound would be appreciated. Especially wondering about what to avoid regarding power amps. Some seem to really be duds.

a lot of people like the Velocity .the older ones are cool to .

A peavey classic 50 or Carvin ts100 if you want to go tube.

or the 500 Atomic mono bloc looks cool .If you read my post you will see that I only had one side of the 50/50 on and it was up about halfway so you would do fine with that volume wise I would suspect .
this test was also through a 212 @16ohm ..put it into a 412 8ohm and it will be preceivably much louder

And remember with the Matrix you get in each channel a real 400 Watts RMS at 4 ohms.

On the other hand. Just by a mosvalve if it makes you happy!
