Danny boy is far to concerned of his pure elf'n magic les paul tone to be clowded by dip switches and IC packs, he would rather use pure 5 gain stages of analog gain to really let the magic of his les paul shine and come through.

does version 7 address the fizz factor on the amp models?
It's all about how you dial it in Pat. I can't remember what firmware I started with, but it was definitely before 7 and that VH clip I did was before 7 as well. Whatever fizz you hear was dialed in by the user...

Besides Ralph, are there any actual clips of a guy using one in a live band situation? Meaning bass, drummer, keys, etc. Not just some guy playing like the Edge nude in his bedroom. Also, how about some mid-gain AC/DC tones, no one I've heard has nailed that down yet without Zakk Wylde amounts of gain dialed in.

maybe some of the brittle culprit but i'm not buying that argument in general.

i can use the CHEAPEST cabs and power on great tube amp front end and make it sound warm and tube-like. but it doesn't work the other way around.

FWIW, I have the hardest time when I can't have specific speakers. I can make most everything in most cabs work as long as I have a V30, Greenie, 65 or Alnico. Stick a Classic 80 or H30, or Emmie in there and I'm having a hard time when it comes to gain.

maybe a valvulator in the loop of the axefx would help. my friend recently picked up this UA preamp:

and it turned her taylor guitar tone from thin and brittle into something wonderful.

one of these in the loop of the axefx, or maybe a fractal/atomic designed interface box like a dumblelator loop box, to insert in the loop of the axefx, may be just what the doctor ordered.
Just not even necessary... no other boxes are necessary to make the Axe sound warm and tube-like... go dial one up yourself and you'll be dissuaded of the need for other stuff to make it sound killer..

There are some good clips out there but they are outnumbered by the bad one's by a fair margain.
In my experience this is true of any given piece of gear. Most guitarists don't dial in tones I particularly like. Not the gear's fault...

I don't get this either I have some old Telefunken mic pres that I had taken out of a board and put in a lunch box type enclosure and when I record with the Axe it's digi out into the Motu and I'm done.

I don't have any digital ins on my current recording system so I just use the analog outs to my Apogee AD-16X and I'm very happy with the results...

5 gain stages couldn't help my last Charvel sound any good.

If i ever ditched an amp setup and went with a rack you can bet I'd be looking for a Quad. A Quad preamp with an Axe-Fx would probably be a most killer setup. Something tells me I'd like a Quad just as much as the new Mark V. I caused a shit storm on the Boogie forum when i complained about the mark V because you can't footswitch between the IV and IIC+ mode.

I actually messed around with it set clean with a Fuzz in front yesterday and it was working out real well.

Someone did post a clip on the Fractal forum playing an AC/DC tune and it was pretty good.

These?

The second one sounds pretty good IMHO. Still has this kinda hollow thing going but not bad at all for an all digital pre.

I want a magic do it all in one box as much as the next guy but until I hear exactly what I'm looking for, I'm not going to shell out for another one only to be disappointed yet again.
I wouldn't have bought it the second time seing that you didn't dig it the first time around.

Scott Peterson said the new firmware brought tears to his eyes so I bought it again.
It came with onion.
