I'm new to the world of AxeFx, so was surprised to see that both the XL and normal Mark II are backordered?

Is this sort of thing normal for Fractal? Does anyone know how long till they replenish their stock and bonus points for knowing how long that'll last?

Seems like they've got a running wait list for both types of units, thanks in advance

Dude, I emailed them as soon as I heard about the new XL coming out. This was on March 1, 2014.
I got this email from them three weeks later.
From: waitlist@fractalaudio.com
Re: Wait List Request - Axe-Fx II [XL]

--- DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL ---

THIS EMAIL CONFIRMS WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR REQUEST.

Thank you for your patience. We'll notify you immediately when your name comes to the top of the list.
At present, we are not able to estimate how long the wait may be, but we're working to increase production to meet the incredible demand.

And still nothing ...it will be 6 months a week from today.
I moved on and got the Kemper and I couldn't be happier. Great sound, I can model mine, or any of my friends killer amps, and best of all, I don't spend 3 hours a night hunched over trying to access how to make my delay stereo ping pong at 250 mil/sec. I had the ultra and that's why I had to get rid of it. Sounded great but it was giving me scoliosis. Fractal obviously didn't do a very good forecast of demand on this one.
Good luck but honestly, you may want to consider a used one or something else at this rate.

But you could pay a few hundred extra and buy one that is in stock OR wait for your name to be next, which is BULLSHIT.

The fact that they are out of stock should tell you how good the product is.

Don't depend on the wait list. Check back every Friday on the website. They usually will be out of stock no longer than a couple weeks on the units. The MFC is a different story. They are assembled in China. Wait is a bit longer.

Go ahead and get the XL. The extra memory is worth it.

That's funny. ;)
 Then as soon as they get it, the new upgrade that makes it sound more amp like comes out. I had an Ultra, and I will never go that route again.

I agree man. The hole craze for the Ax is a bit much and to wait, or to call someone every 7 days like a lab rat on crack ain't the gig I wanna be playin. Id rather spend the time with this really cool thing that was invented called the guitar.

+1

I had all the hardware models and am software only now. S-Gear has been my amp sim of choice for the past 36 months and I am now fiddling arround with the prerelease version of Bias Desktop. Have not tried the profiling/matching feature yet.

Holy shit. That is Axactly what happened to me, but instead it was a matter of days. I literally watched my 2k computer box with the shark chip get another shark chip and become known as the Axe FX 2. They dropped the price of the Ultra substantially while mine was still on the UPS truck, and basically made the ultra 2 the price of my ultra. That really flamed the shit out of me. They never mentioned anything about the release, all I could do is sit home and be bummed, all the while getting Axe FX induced back and neck problems.

dude....do you have some sort of fucking problem or what? if you don't like the Axe FX, or probably aren't smart enough to work with it, then move on. you really need to pull that bone out of your ass.

nobody here gives two shits about what you like and don't like.

This emphasizes what I dislike about digital & processor-based technology. The industry moves too fast & although the AxeFX is unquestionably an incredible piece of kit, I don't think the markup of the unit justifies the hardware cost. Apple are a classic example of this whereby their price point is high, subsidizing their RnD, forcing technology to move faster & making older technology redundant quicker. Computer hardware i/o will advance beyond the usability of the unit. What happens to these units when USB becomes redundant & who is able to fix an AxeFX once the unit is discontinued?
This is where analog equipment has its advantages. I don't see power & audio connectivity evolving any time soon, which means that guitars, amplifiers & pedals retain their value & functionality.
Some people can justify spending thousands on equipment for a limited life span (particularly as the AxeFX is so functional & feature-packed), but musical gear of that value shouldn't lose its lifetime usability in my opinion.

The Axe FX and Kemper stuff is awesome in that it has helped me get some great deals on killer Tube amps from people going digital.

I have stopped using Fractal stuff due to their POS business practices, like what happened at the launch of Axe II. I simply won't support a company with my money whatever it makes, running a business I can't trust. Not as bad as the Vertex shit, but lying and deceiving is not the way to gain trust.
I bought my Standard in 2007, waited for approx. 9 months with basically 0 feedback on availability. Just got a mail, that my number is up.

So sorry to hear that princess. They should have flown in angels to hold your precious little hand guiding you through the arduous ordering process, making sure you were pampered in a matter fitting your sweetness.

I had no issues with the waiting, I knew what to expect. That was waaaaay before the Axe II release.
Why I stopped using their gear is the way they acted before and after releasing the Axe II.
They were stating, that the original models will not be replaced in the coming years and people should not wait for a new unit, but order the current one. In the meantime AXE II was in production, forum admins and test people started dumping their old gear on ebay, to get better buck before the release of the new unit.
Even the last batch was sold as "issues with cosmetics" people jumped at it, because of the slightly dropped price and immediate availability, as soon as the last one is sold, TA-DAA, the new unit is released, no refunds or switch to the new units for the poor bastards buying the last batch. I was not involved, but it blew my mind.
Fanboys claimed Apple does the same, I think Apple sucks in this matter too.

Thanks all for chiming in, I know the modeling conversation is a loaded on around these parts, but in my opinion technological advancement is fun and healthy. I agree that modelers will never sound as great as the real thing, which is why I just sold my kemper and have a Friedman half stack on the way. That being said, plenty of people have been part of tone tests where you cannot even tell which is the amp and which is the modeler.

I mostly just wanted to pick up an AxeFx for use in the effects loop of my Friedman. Have an eventide eclipse and a bunch of pedals, but seems the Axe might be a more robust/fun option to run in the loop.

I'm not familiar with their bad business practices that some of you spoke of, so maybe I'll just stick to the classifieds...

You can snatch anAxe I Standard used quite cheap and it will do all you can wish for in an effects loop. :) End of life product, no firmware updates, but a reliable product. You can fund it by selling the eclipse, and using it after the eclipse will be a relief considering ease of use.
The only thing may go south is the cooling fan, but it can be replaced for 5 bucks, if it fails.

That's exactly what happened when I bought my Ultra. I will never buy a Fractal product again.
