I believe that’s where the term “wang-bar” comes from...

It cracks me up so many people around here still refer to death metal vocals as Cookie Monster lol.

Old people who object to the evolution of music they like instead of learning and appreciating new trends. That's why they reference a character created in 1966.

Really, today, guitars are more prominent in pop and rap music than they are in rock. We're getting to the point now where rock bands are becoming archaic and solo artists are the mainstream. To combat this, we need new ideas in rock and metal. You won't get growth in the genre from people who don't accept new trends. The irony there is that screaming has been in rock music since the 60s, so the Cookie Monster is just as old as the Death Metal growl.

Anyhow, I like it (Babymetal), and I appreciate new ideas in music. That's why I play kazoo in my rock/funk/grind/pop/swing/jazz/death metal band.

yeah i cant figure out how people are not in the least interested in new trends or genres, especially now where there isnt anything you cant listen to for free with streaming services. then again there are still guys here who listen to FM radio as their main platform who cant figure out why no one is impressed with the new C level band they post that they heard on the rockin' lunch hour.

Most of us old guys don’t like a lot of stuff this not because we’re old and and not open to new music, we don’t like it because it blows.

I get that the musicians who create this are obviously talented. No argument there. But this is corporate, over polished, gimmick-laden, soulless music, created solely for making money, not because it’s art begging to be released from inside the artist.

I dunno man, ISAO (one of their guitar players) is going nuts on their new album. Guy is incredible and sounds plenty inspired to me.

I hear you man. Like I said, all the musicians involved in this are obviously talented and top notch. For those of us who love to play, just the act of playing can be inspiring. On the other hand, with this band, I’m sure the paycheck was good as well. More power to him.

im watching poppy live and she has a full band all in costume rocking marshall full stacks, whats more proper rock and roll than that?

I agree. I try to stay pretty open minded about stuff but I can tell when something isn't "authentic" or is off. A lot of stuff will either be too polished or just doesn't grab you. I know they are not new but when I first heard "Powertrip" I was like "wow, what the hell is this?!!!!" and made me feel good like some great music.

i never listened to something and wondered if it was "authentic" upon first listen? what exactly kind of stuff are you guys looking for? does it have to be guitar driven rock or metal?

I'm more of a Band-Maid fan. Baby Metal are obviously fantastic players and performers, and I bet their shows are even fun for a non-fan. But it's just a little too out there for me. FWIW, Band-Maid's fans are just fanatical. I belong to a BM fan group on FB and those guys make Rush fans look casual.

LOL Yeah Rick.

Say mate, do you know if the non-singing guitarist is still infatuated with the singer? Last I heard she wanted to marry her, but the singer didn't appear to share the same feelings.

At any rate, BM totally rocks and I've loved their stuff for years.

I'm more a fan of Ladybaby, myself...

I kid, not a fan of either - I respect the musicianship and hey, if someone digs them, more power to you but I just can't get into it.
