Bass recommendations?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a $500 or cheaper 4 string bass that can be used for demos and also for practicing? The lady is wanting to play bass again (she mostly plays cello and piano, used to play bass like 8 years ago) and I could use one handy around the house for recording demos. I'm guessing used would be a better thing to focus on since I'd probably get a lot more bang for my buck

Thanks in advance

You can find used Fender Standard (Made in Mexico I think) series bass guitars around $400-500. Classic style, good tone, stable. They used to go for $300-400 used but seem have gone up in price in recent years.

Don't forget to look at Dean, ESP LTD and Ibanez in your budget.
Especially a used Ibanez Soundgear might be a wise choice, if you're a guitarist that only wants to dabble with bass, because of the sleeker necks and typically easier playability.

Coming from a guitarist who has a nice Cort NA-4 Artisan active bass

and a '81 Tokai Hard Puncher (Precision-clone).

Second Music Man, the Sterling or SUB.

2nd place for me would be a Cort, but the MM offerings are more-solid.

I would go MIM Fender or one of the USA neck thru natural finish basses. Both of which are well in range and kick ass. Sterling basses are also nice IMO.

Our pleasure I'm sure, mate.

You can't go too-far wrong with most of those recommended IMHO.

Now, go get 'em, killer. :gethim:
