Bought a Rock n Roll Relics Revenge (RNRR) last October. Had it custom made by their shop. I went with some gambles on this guitar like wood and pup selections. This is my review and all opinions are mine. They are an easy going bunch, they didn’t give me much in the way of building the guitar but were very open to any ideas I put out there. Originally, I went with a color and a few weeks later I made a change and totally changed the color to striped and they had no problem because they hadn’t gotten started on any colors. They did let me know it would be another $500, which I was okay with because it required more work. That’s being said, the final price came out to $4300 with was more than the additional $500 by about $300. I didn’t sweat it, though I thought the communication wasn’t great on their part, they should have sent me an updated invoice at the time of the change. They were dialed in on receiving the guitar, they said October and I received it in early October. They guitar is a work of art, can’t say enough about all the work they do when it comes to that. In the custom build I ended going with SD Invader, which I use to use several years ago and really liked, I guess my taste has changed because I wasn’t in love with the pup. When I received it, the setup was way off, lots of denotes on high e and b strings past the 12th fret. I figured the guitar was still setting and had a quick email exchange with RnRR and they said either take it to a luither or ship it back to them to dial in. I have put together partcasters before but decided I wanted someone who really was dialed in and didn’t want to wing it on a $4300 guitar so I opted for a local luither who has worked on some of my guitars before. I wasn’t pleased about this because at $4300 they should have covered cost in my opinion with local luither. I never had this issue with any custom shop fenders or charvels I own. Since I went with my local guy I decided to swap out the PUP with a BareKnuckle HolyDiver in relic yellow. I have this pup in other guitars and just love it. Yep, should have gone with that all along, pup looks good and sounds great to me. Once I got guitar back I was happy with end result. I have 60s neck, and it’s feels great. The guitar body is Spanish cedar. As a reference the body is a bit thinner than my Gibson LP. The weight on the guitar is light, which makes it great for jam session when you are playing for a couple hours. The sound of the guitar does seem a bit thinner, but that is where matching up the pickup is key. I heard a big difference when I moved to the BK that I liked a lot more. The pup does sound different in this guitar than in my charvel. Again pup selection and amp selection make a big difference. I run this through an EVH w/ EL34s and it rocks. When I run it through my small Marshall combo inside my house it’s a bit different. Overall
Appearance 10/10
Communication 4/10
Neck feel 9/10
Custom service 2/10
Overall 7/10
Would I buy it again. No - at the price I had to do to much extra work to get it dialed in.
Would I sell it. No. 2 reasons. Resell sucks but that isn’t my primary reason. The appearance, feel, and overall sound of guitar is good enough to hold. All my buddies love looking at this guitar, it says rock n roll. When I’m jamming with my garage band, it’s a lot of fun to play and it just fits right in with the right songs. It’s a rock guitar, not a metal guitar.
