$90-$150 for a hat?! what in the tarnation?

On a forum where people spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on amps, guitars, and pedals, I'm surprised I have to explain how collecting shit works.
Some people collect watches.
Some people collect purses, others collect sneakers.
I collect pens. And jackets. And hats. Some hats cost a lot of money. The same kind of money that some people would ear mark for a guitar. The same kind of money that some people would spend on a watch.

So in short, yes, 150 for a hat.

I AM MAD I HAD TO EXPLAIN MY HABITS lol

I'm sure there are, but I don't stay in that circle much. I just peruse ebay occasionally to see if shit I like is available. There was one called niketalk, which as you can likely gather from the name, revolved mostly around collecting sneakers. For all intents and purposes, I am associating hats with streetwear, so I assume there are likely streetwear forums where sites like Grailed, StockX, and others are talked about.
As you can see from the pics though, it's not just streetwear. Those dapper-ass cowboy hats...that's not exactly lost on me, but I am never wearing that lol.

i literally just found the hats subreddit and its insane...i would have never imagined this kind of interest in hats. learn something new everyday

post the one you're after please, i'm genuinely curious to see what it is...or don't in case you're worried someone here might snag it lol...post a pic once you get it in that case!

I mostly collect 5 panel hats, which refers to the construction of the dome piece. Most baseball caps have 6 panels that meet at the top...and there's that button. These are made differently and fit my tiny peanut head much better. There's one cat and one 4 panel hat (the split color Tommy Hilfiger hat in the top left corner next to Ricky) in these pics, but these are some of my hats, let me show you them.

The new hat I'm after is more like what my friend here is wearing:

very cool. i did not know that the hats with the front dome being looser had a specific name, i've definitely seen them before though!

are you after any specific era or any specific brand or just generally interested in anything that is 5 panel?

One day I'm measuring the distance between my bridge and the pickup, and the next day I'm counting hat panels. I love this forum.

No matter what, it’s all about the headroom.

Sure. I like polka dots lol and definitely a few particular brands (Polo, Only, North Face).

Yeah. Besides the collectible market mentioned, high-quality beaver fur western hats fetch a pretty penny new too. E.g.,

dang! that is fascinating!!

@Nashville Riff Co
Venturing out of my 5 panel comfort zone, I do get fitted 6 panel hats every now and then. I’m very discriminatory when it comes to picking these. This is a vintage Ralph Lauren Sportsman hat. I really dig the corduroy. I’ve never hunted a day in my life but the Sportsman line is great.

Edit - the brim is suede and I think those darker marks near the crown are just the pattern of the suede.

Very cool, it’s definitely got the old school lodge vibe

I can actually smell the hunting lodge looking at that brown corduroy fwiw lol

Seller accepted my 55 dollar offer on the hat. Here’s to hoping your low balls work out @BeZo
We've been messaging back and forth. This time I was a little mean. I told him again the going rate for those guitars, and referenced some sold listings to make my point. Then I basically said he could sell it now, or I can wait a few more months and make my offer again, like I did last time.

He couldn't sell it after dropping the price to $1299, so he put it back to $1699, even though Google can find the link where the same guitar sold newer for $1600.

I mean, if I'm consistently the highest bid on it, am I really the low baller?
