Best delay to use in front of an amp?

Thanks for all the input. I currently have TC Nova System(too busy) and the Line 6 Delay Modeler(so so) but just want a good simple delay that will sound right in front of a high gain amp. For the money, the MXR may be the ticket.

Most my amps have no loop. Any input on the best delay to use in front of the amp. With or without a boost pedal. I hear the MXR Carbon Copy is good. opinions?

Thanks

Doggone it Jason, you've been around all these years and are still asking for the "best"!!!!! Don't make me come over there. :D

How's it going mang?

Hey Bob,

Long time.

What you mean no delay pedal kills all the others. None are best by a longshot and blow all the others away. There is no definitive answer. fark.

nah I hear ya. Bad choice of words. I suppose what is your favorite would have been better.

So I am doing well, Been surfing and working. It has been a good year. Lots of new gear, went to Indonesia in the fall and I am leaving for Australia in 2 weeks. Can't complain.

How bout you? Drop me a PM and keep in touch.

ps I am going to be in so cal from the 23rd of march till my plane leaves for Australia on the 26th. Both in LA and SD. Maybe we can meet at In n Out Burger for lunch on I-5 at Avery Parkway. That is in your hood isn't it. My treat..

Cya,

Jason

Send your DL4 to Keeley...he'll adjust the volume so it'll sound killer out front

for me it's the good, old deluxe memory man from electro harmonix (the bigger ones). still my favourite after years....

by saying this i remembered myself i have to buy another one

Sound right out in front of high gain - is the key and nearly impossible mission here. If you're looking for it to give solo and lead lines "that" sound....it's just probably not gonna happen unless your high gain isn't THAT high gain. As stated, would be better running a crunch sound then boosting with delay in between.

That said, I would try the Carbon copy if I were you.

Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. IMO too expensive new but sounds great in front and amazing in the loop.

the secret is the high and low frequency filtering.

It is expensive, I had one of the first ones when it came out, I can't even remeber why I didn't like it then   I just ordered one of those Tech 21 Boost D.L.A. pedals today for the same purpose of running in front, I read a couple reviews and they said it worked great for that. We'll see.

Just got the Tech 21 Boost D.L.A. yesterday, my review is I think it sucks balls.

Sounds like my prom date

Your Prom date sucked your balls? Well done Pete.

+1 For the Mad Professor... I use it in my HERBERTS Loop... Really Natural & Warm. AWESOME!

This From Matt Schofield's page... One of the current Great Blues Guitarists:

Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay

"After a long and expensive search, going through just about every "stomp-box" delay, past and present, for something that could even come close to the great sounding (but high maintenance) tape echo units I love, I was very happy to find the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. (http://www.mpamp.com/pedal)

The smallest and simplest little box I tried sounded the absolute best for my needs. It doesn't mess with my basic dry tone at all, which is very important, and using the pedal into the front of the amp (never been a fan of dealing with FX loops) the delay doesn't get in the way or "smear" the notes. Just subtle, spacious ambiance with the right overall character."

No ready to pull the trigger just yet. I want to try the MXR and a few others if possible. The Keeley Mod to the DL4 sounds like a cool idea too.

I tried the MXR & sold it... Not bad but it wasn't the Mad Professor! Also had the Maxon Pro... Not even close.
