Ugh....what a terrible song....
Perhaps, but the coolest riff and best tone to come out of that entire decade

Not even in the ballpark brother. I can think of dozens of other riffs that came out in the 80's (mostly early) by many bands that are so classic that it's embarrassing to mention Ratt in the same breath. So I wont.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. And that's ok. ;)

Please share with the rest of the class

Yeah, no kidding. Let's hear it. "Dozens" right? If there are 24, or 36, or maybe even 48 cooler riffs from the early 80s, I would love to get educated!!

Now, first let me say that Lay It Down is a very cool riff and one of the best from that era but 1984 from VH has several on it alone I would pick over it. Still Of The Night I like a lot better. Back In Black, that's just off the top of my head. All just IMO of course. There's no rules to what you like. If I jogged my memory with a You Tube journey I'm sure I would find a lot of equally killer riffs in new wave and pop music too. But I absolutely still think Lay It Down is a classic. Any awesome Ratt riff is always tainted by the eventuality that you will hear Pearcy sing.

Oh yeah, that entire decade was a great era for monster riffs. He did say early 80s I think, so technically Still of the Night doesn't count ;)

I think artists like EVH, Randy, Scorpions/Schenker, Accept, AC/DC all came up with some great stuff. I just want him to post a big ass list, just for the hell of it.

Best release of 1984.

Now, who is this RATT band you speak of? :dunno:

Someone posted a version of it a couple years back that sounded DEAD on to the original.
Even had the original video posted for comparison.
I dug around for it a little but couldnt find it in the sea of threads.

Thanks, guys! We're basically doing a Ratt tribute without wigs or gimmicks and putting a little more modern edge to it. Nice playing venues like House of Blues as well!

I saw Ratt on the Invasion tour when I was 18 and stood right in front of Warren's amps. To this day, it is still one of the meanest, loudest guitar sounds I've ever heard. And he was just unbelievably good!

Dio "Holy Diver"
Sabbath "Born Again" "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules"
Mercyful Fate " Melissa" and " Don't Break the Oath"
Savatage "The Dungeons are Calling"
Accept "Restless and Wild" and "Balls to the Wall"
Early 80's Scorpions, Ozzy, Maiden, Riot, Saxon, Priest, AC/DC.......All of these and then some were chock full of riffs that make "Lay it Down" sound like childs play in comparison IMO...

I agree with you... Warren is one of my favorites, his playing/tone is inspiring especially after a live show.

I do agree that those are some memorable riffs/tunes, but Lay it Down belongs right there with them. And I could throw more into the pot....I know everyone hates this Ratt riff but it is memorable.
