Ok this is probably something that has been discussed before but not everyone has been here for as long as others.
I'm looking for people that like the "Marshall" type growl to chime in here with experienced comments. I'm in search of a really thick, not scooped/ lots of mids, hi gain amp that is basically a Marshall type sound. EL 34s or KT88s are detailed enough to my ear.

The thing is I plan on keeping the amp around for a LONG time so I'm looking for an amp that also has top components too. IE Good transformer and guts. Not neccessarily boutique but close. Any smaller companies or lesser known amps are great!

I love this tone:

Or the more traditional:

Can't afford that, but it's a nice bench mark. I also am aware of the Splawn line, I like what I've seen alot.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Your time is appreciated.
Jim.

....a marshall?
I've played Modded and stock Marshalls before and they never have the tight Low E String that I need. :)

If I were to gallop on the low E I want it tight not round. It shows up more with more gain behind it, the round sound.

......for the Marshall roar with tighter bottom and clarity etc.....Wizard

Cameron and Splawn are the first to come to mind.

Tight... Try a VHT or Engl

Ever try a Laney VH100R?

I've always thought of VHT or ENGL to be of the scooped type of amp. Is that not true.

No I have not played a Laney but I have seen some nice clips. They are a 6L6 amp aren't they?

Yeah I was just drooling over those earlier... WAY out of range right now.

I fixed your post to display with the video

If I wanted to approximate the tone on a more readily available amp I would buy a Marshall Vintage Modern and use a boost in front like a BB overdrive. I have both the CCV100 in the video and a Marshall Vintage Modern and trust me, it will get you close.

I'm not a tone expert but I think I get that type of tone out of my XXX with my bolt on W/ a 500T bridge pup.

Well I would say they are more modern amps. The Engl is scooped but the VHT stuff always seems to be thick in the mids. Yes the Laney is 6L6 but very British sounding. What I mean is that if you like Marshalls I can see you liking the Laney.

Hmmm, good info brothers!
thanks for fixing the link to have the vid pic too! You are gonna keep this site going top notch!
So the VM Marshall can do the Cam thing. How would you say they compare. I am looking for a KEEPER too. I don't have much faith in alot of current production Marshal stuff, but maybe that is misplaced.

A Vintage Modern is NOT a CCV100 but with a good boost it is in the same vein and sounds great. You can buy the VM on the bay for under $1K so a good value. If you can find a Cameron CCV100 you will never lose a dime on it and you will love the tone but its hard to come by. The VM is a dime a dozen and very very good IMO.

Here is Doug Aldrich who is known for playing a Cameron modded Marshalls playing the Vintage Modern for comparison.
