ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding!!!! Winner right there. A metal or a modern classic 100 is probably the best sounding roar out there! Nailed it!

I agree but if the OP can't afford a Cameron, then he sure as hell can't afford a Wizard.

So you got it Will? Cool!

How do you like it so far? The Wizard stuff has some power that's for sure. Rick put a power boost in mine, so it really gets loud when needed to go beyond 11.....which is never.

Yeah I see that now.... :) But after you figure in how many amps it takes to ultimately end up there......

i would get a ceriatone trainwreck clone

Really? I haven't heard the trainwreck clone, but isn't that up a little different (but still somewhat comparable) vein than a Marshall?

I would stick to Splawn, Cameron, or Voodoo to get that type of sound, or go out and buy a clean JCM800 or JMP.

the power tubes used really don't influence the tone as much as people would like to believe.

Get a Marshally preamp, and plug it into the fx return of any decent serial fx loop on a decent head.

Some ideas:

Marshall JMP-1
Egnater IE-4
ADA MP-1
VHT GP3
Engl 530
etc.

You're probably right. But the feel difference is much more vast.

Not that I'm really experienced at this (but that's never stopped me from giving my opinion before) what about a used DSL then a FJA or Voodoo mod? Should be price-friendly.

I'm sure that would sound great, but I don't know about "price-friendly." Used DSL - $600-$700. Voodoo mod - $300-$800 + shipping. You are into the amp for $1500. Trace does great work, but you need to make sure that the amp is close to what you want before sending it out - can't polish a turd (if that's what you think it is)!!!

Don't know FJA's pricing, but I'm sure it is in the same ballpark.

I have looked into doing that. Looking for a more simple approach though.

I've done that with my bass amps, it does sound pretty cool.
Looking for a simple setup really though.

I have to give a knod to this.

When I thnk Marshall roar I think open sounding and not compressed, a Plexi type amp dimed with a nice little boost is roar.

This imo is roar.....................

70Strathead's clip, Marshall JMP 74 dimed, 90' Warmoth strat w/JB Humbuckers, Love Pedal plexi 800
