singlecut: my friends 1980 les paul standard, tone is epic and it plays itself

strat style: toss up between a music zoo charvel custom shop and a 2000s tyler studio

you guys?

I played a beat to shit late 70s Les Paul Deluxe at a store once. Hands down one of the best guitars I’ve ever played.

Again, I played a 50s Strat at a GC, like a $15,000 real 50s Strat, it was a near religious experience.

Both just had “it” whatever “it” is. Effortless to play. Both sounded great. The Strat made me believe the hype about vintage guitars. IDK if they’re ALL that way (I doubt it), but that Strat sure was killer.

My Bartlet Retrospec for the singlecut. Well, it’s not exactly a singlecut, but it basically is lol.

I recently played a Fender heavy relic custom shop ‘61 strat. Easily the best strat i’ve played and one of the best guitars I’ve ever played. I wish I could’ve bought it.

My 2009 USA Charvel SoCal. Plays itself. A close 2nd is the 84 Charvel I bought a few months ago. Both sound incredible as well. Both better than the 3 Charvel custom shops I've owned.

A 1978 Gibson custom LP, black beauty..perfect LP. They wanted 5K for it. Bastards.

For single cuts it would be between my friend’s ‘56 Les Paul, my other friends ‘69 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty and my ‘57 Les Paul Jr. I’d probably choose the ‘69 LP Custom of those 3, but it depends on taste. My ‘64 SG Jr would be competitive with those too, but it’s technically a double cut away

For Strat style guitars it would be by far my same friend’s ‘57 Strat. For super Strat humbucker style guitars it would be the all maple ‘90’s ESP I just got. Maybe a GNG would be up there too, but haven’t gotten to try one yet

Also, you didn’t ask for it, but for tele guitars it would be this ‘63 Esquire I tried recently. From my experience the very best in any category of these guitars tend to all be the real deal vintage ones. They may be way overpriced, but once you hear the difference in side by side comparisons you can’t unhear it from there onwards. It’s generally been the same experience for me as well with amps, pedals and most categories of gear. Actually it’s with pedals where I find the biggest difference in quality with vintage vs modern ones, particularly with fuzzes or something like that Boss CE-2 chorus pedal

I love my ESP Eclipse with a Schaller Floyd and my (oddly cheap) Ibanez Prestige 2570 EV SL. I have not found better specimens for what I play.

Best single cut is my Esp Eclipse 2005 and my Gibson Les Paul Standard 2017. When it comes to the feel of playing the guitar, the Eclipse is a tad better than the Gibson. But when it comes to the sound, the Gibson is a tad better than the Eclipse. This is only due to the pickups of the guitar. The Eclipse has Lundgren M6 humbuckers and they are truly amazing. The Les Paul has Knucklebuckers Rebel Yell's and are more dynamic.

Best strat was my Fender Stratocaster Deluxe 2005.

As far as modern ones go, most R9's I've came across are pretty good especially the ones under 9lbs.

I love my '60 Melody Maker but it sounds more like an SG due to the thinner body compared to a Jr.

My 2014 R0 and my 2006 Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top:

Surprisingly the 2010 LEs Paul Traditional Pro I recently picked up is one of the best playing Les Pauls I've ever come across.
Sound wise it probably can't touch a Paul from the 70's (which I've also owned over the years), but this one os a real player.
For Strat Style my blue All Maple GMW is easily the best playing "strat Style" guitar I've ever come across.
Having a 1 3/4" nut makes a world of difference, and Lee always used top notch woods.

My Solar S1.6 is my favorite superstrat I've ever owned. It rarely leaves my hands when Im home. The best two LP type guitars I've owned one was an Epiphone Prophecy I had when they first came out. The other was a trans blue Gibson Les Paul Standard that I had in the 90's. If I were to play it now it probably wouldnt be anything special but I have fond memories of it.

I want a Charvel one of these days. I tried one a few weeks ago a really dug it. Ive always kinda steered clear from them as Ive always associated it with hair metal(even though I do enjoy quite a few hair metal bands). I tried out an LTD black metal and an Ibanez the same day but the Charvel was super nice just the action was a bit high.

I want an Eclipse one day. Everytime I play the EC1000 at shops I have a hard time putting it down. I need to try other LP type guitars though.

If you're talking "traditional" strat style, my pick is the EBMM Cutlass

As far as single cuts, idk. A particular Les Paul Studio Deluxe II I played at a shop in Florida and an old flat top Eclipse with a Floyd stand out

Best singlecut I've played is my PRS Tremonti. Sounds great and plays like a dream, just a kick ass guitar!

Best strat-style - that's tough. I played a couple of Fender custom shops that were pretty badass, never could pull the trigger on one though. Played a '67 100% original strat, it was very cool and had TONS of mojo, sounded amazing, but was a bit tougher to play than some of its newer counterparts. Action was a tad high for my liking and frets were a little smallish for my preference but damn....it just had the "it" factor that made you want to play.
