I've had all version of the Jubilees and the 2554 is my favorite.
I like the 2554 much better than the 2550 head that I had, both as a stand-alone and through the 4x12. What do you think of the 25 watt mode? IMO, it's the best sounding 1/2 power mode of any Marshall I've ever owned. It has a sort-of 'tube rectifier' feel to it, IMO. I use the triode mode a lot.
I tend to keep it on full, but I agree the half is good on this amp compared to others I've owned. It has a nice warmth to it.

Those Fane 90s are definitely a speaker I need to try sometime. Only heard good things.
Agreed, the 25 watt mode was quite good

The F90’s won’t have same warmth or character as your vintage celestions, but if you want punch, definition, and moving air they do the job better than anything I’ve tried thus far. I’ve only had ‘em mixed with V30’s and Fullback’s, but will try them as a full quad eventually. They’re $150 new, so not as bad as most celestions

I also quite like the Celestion Alnico Gold’s. Planning to cross a pair of those with my RIC Creamback’s tonight
The Alnico Gold is a rocking speaker! I had a 2x12 loaded with 'em, which is another sale that I regret. You know, I think this Marshall Vintage speaker sounds better than a Celestion Vintage 30. I thought they were the same speaker?

Also... Why does the 2554 have an extra filter cap?

The gold is by far my favorite Alnico speaker that they currently make, but I actually didn’t like them with the 2554 I had for some reason. I had the gold’s in my Friedman cab and the jubilee didn’t work as well with them imo

The Vintage in the 2554 I traded to Racerxrated did seem quite different than the current V30’s, but I was expecting that based on what I’d heard

You could try a Mesa Black Shadow (Celestion 90). Supposed to be the same as the 85, or an Altec 12.

I like the Alnico Blue and the Alnico Gold. Didn't care for the Cream or the Ruby at all.

I tried the 2x12 Gold loaded cabinet with my 2550 head, and felt the same way. They work best with VOX, IMO.

I ask you... Is there a cooler looking 1x12 combo? :)

Never.

I read that the 2554 was Jim Marshall's favorite amp of all of his creations. That's saying something.

Hmm..are there 4? I haven't pulled the chassis on this one yet to tube roll...last week was a fun one as I got the 72 Super T on Thurs and the Jube Friday...the Trem's 34s (Original tubes; Siemens) were WAAAY low at 5-15 ma. Had to do a little cleaning/re bias lol. Sounds amazing though.

This 2554 is also Canadian; Marshall had different designs for different countries it seems. The 800 line in the US and Britain started in 81; but in Canada and Northern Eu the amps continued in JMP skin for a few more yrs. I've seen a vertical input 800 from Canada that dates from 87. The last vertical input 800s in the US and Britain were made in 84.

It's quite an amp. Compared to my 2550, it's a much better sounding amp; especially in the gain structure department. It comes-on earlier, and has a richer sound to it. My 2550 was an '88 model, so it had all of the factory updates. The 2554 rhythm clipping mode is probably the most noticeable difference. The 2550 sounded thin in comparison. With this amp, I actually use the rhythm mode. I wish there was a way to switch back and forth via footswitch.

I find the current blues too nasally for my taste and not as warm or growly as the golds, but would love to try the original blues one day. Those should be pretty sweet

The gold’s are definitely great with my vox. I like the gold’s with a bunch of my amps, just not most Marshall-y ones. I like ‘em with my boogies too. Adds a nice silky quality to them

The first Blue that I purchased from Avatar began making odd noises. The replacement speaker came directly from Celestion, and the difference was immediate. Way better than the original Avatar purchased Blue. No nasally character at all.
