To Jubilee or not to Jubilee....

For the past year or so I have been using either my EVH 5150 III Stealth or a Friedman Runt 50. I picked up the Runt on a trade and added a Lynch Mod for some extra gain. Honestly, the "Friedman sound" is not my thing. Dave builds rock solid amps, but I just don't care for their voicing. So, I'm working to move the Runt and it's matching 212 cab.

I had a 1988 black tolex 2550 about 15 years ago. I remember really loving that amp a lot. I only parted with it because I convinced myself that I really "needed" a clean channel with separate EQ. Funny thing is that I can't remember the last time I used a clean tone for anything I have played in the last decade.

Anyway... I've been watching videos of the new Marshall 2553X Jubilee re-issue since they came out a few years ago. JCM800 but slightly darker with a bit more gain. The sound I remember. I'd be playing it through my EVH 412 with the Celestion EVH speakers. Until I could get a matching Marshall 412 with V30s. (Though the thought of properly breaking in a new set of V30s is.... well, yeah) I'd love to hear anyone's thought who has gotten to play one of the Jubilee re-issues. I miss having a true Marshall in the lineup. I'm hoping that it can scratch that itch.

Yeah why not. Don't get rid of your other amps tho.
People be gouging Jube prices Bro.

Jubilees kick ass.

not a reissue, but I own an original 2553 50W short head since mid nineties, and I love this amp...go for it

also I tried tons of overdrives with it and the all around best for me is a boss GE7 eq

I hope that's a real Fender that guy's playing, otherwise he's gonna get sued into bolivion.

Have you played an EVH Iconic? Alot of people say it's a more Marshally EVH amp.:dunno:

I had one of those little 2553's with the matching slant 2x12. It's the cutest lil' half-stack ever! Seriously, they sounded really good. I only had that thing for a minute or so....then must have sold it or traded it off.

Old 2554 and 2550 are great because Drake trannies, the same as 2204. The new ones was shrill and muddy at same time without those haunting mids :) These are on the same level as 100HR, solid workhorse but not as much exciting. They are pretty cheap in EU.

I've played on in a store. It was ok. Nothing that I really felt was worth taking home. I really have moder high gain covered with the Stealth. I'm looking for more classic Marshall tones. I really like where Marshall mids punch at. And I think that's where I have an issue with the Runt. Yes, it is more aggressive in the EQ than other Friedmans, but it still just doesn't sound like a Marshall. So, I figure why not just get a Marshall. lol...

Yeah, the re-issues are solid and sound good.
Mine has been here for quite a while, and I have no plans to move it.

I used to have 2 Jubilees that were the 2555SL ones they did for slash & i wish i still had one of them.
