Blackstar Doug Aldrich DA100 demo

Wonder if they’re using SMD’s on the board. Big reason why other Blackstars are insane for repairs.
I always find it interesting what's considered difficult for repairing amps, vs. what electronics techs in other industries deal with on a day-to-day basis. I'm used to always having someone on staff with a good touch with ball grid arrays, never mind random surface mount stuff.

I dunno, the HT Club 50 I just worked on was built pretty well. Had to replace a potentiometer that took a hit. Board was thick with all components locations labeled. The solder pads were substantial. Better boards than current Marshall. Easy to dissassemble, not a fan of the lead free solder but everything has that now. Pretty kickin amp for not alot of money.

Only two preamp tubes? That is a big deal? The old MP1’s had two, tons of gain.

Just saw Uli Roth a few days ago…still touring with his Blackstar.

Easy explanation, Doug always did that Vintage plexi reduction of a gain stage... that's where all his tone came from... Less gain, which made more gain *cough solid state Wackstar nonsense*
More like the preamp is mostly op-amps like the 5150 Iconic. This isn't a plexi.

Gus G had a signature Blackstar which is 4 channels, with two boosts built in. Love mine, never had a problem with it.
