Full album came out last Friday after having had a handful of singles drop earlier. Check whatever your streamer of choice is.

After one pass through it seems a solid "good not great". I won't ever complain that Zakk continues writing fun riffs, but don't think this album is pushing any new boundaries for him. I think my favorite tracks so far are Lord Humungus and Pedal To The Floor.

I haven’t checked it out yet but I have a hunch I know what to expect.

I dropped off around 1919 Eternal, those first few BLS albums were fucking badass, though.

“Just an ignorant cunt, talkin’ such shit….”

Good..But not great is my general opinion so far. I like the guitar sound and production overall. Definitely worth a shot.

I was excited for the album after listening to Name In Blood a little while back. The rest of the album wasn't bad, but not nearly as strong as Name In Blood is by any means, imo.

I listened yesterday as far as I could. It was ok. Nothing new. I like his earlier stuff but most of his later output is same sounding to me.

I wish he’d work with a producer to actually do an album and not just bust out some songs to a click track then have the band come in and play the parts to those tracks.

Spend some time on tones, develop the songs, etc. I know this is basically just an excuse for him to stay on the road, but that dude doesn’t really need any excuses. Like Vai, Satch, Hagar and Maynard from Tool/Perfect Circle, the dude hasn’t stopped touring since the pandemic ended. 3-4 weeks at home at the most and it’s back on the road.

I think this is what is happening^

Zakk said this is his process and it works. For me, I think you need to go round and round a few times. ie, I write the main guitar riff, then drums, bass- then go back to guitar as I get inspired differently by hearing the other voices. I keep going round and round until I'm happy, often the original guitar riff is gone!
I think this mimics how musicians feed off of each other, but I don't have the time or people to do it the traditional way. Going 1 round like Zakk makes the music kind of stale after 20 years lol

It can go both ways, I’ gave myself demoitis so many times that songs I once loved will likely never see the light of day due to being sick of them at this point. Now I try to start with the mentally of “These are the final tracks” the first time I press record, but that’s a whole different trip I’m on in regard to improvising and writing on the spot.

I know I can get in the way of a song being a song and toiling over them wasn’t making them any better, it was just putting more pressure on me to come up with something that excited me more than the original idea, which usually came from an inspired moment and months later I’ll never even feel the same way.
