Bonamassa pretty much owns Zakk Wylde here.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Zack maybe couldn't hear himself well here? Have any of you been in a situation like this, or played on a stage that size? If you walk away from your amp (and there's no wedge in front of you), you're gone. He might not have been coming through any of the monitors on stage.

My guess is that he couldn't hear himself well, which is why he might have run back over to where his amp might have been. Or that he wasn't in the monitors. Or that he didn't get a sound check and so was perhaps not eq'd properly in the house. Lots of potential ways to not hear yourself or not sound your best.

I have been in a situation where I couldn't hear anything I was playing while soloing over a song I've never soloed over before. My wife caught it all on camera. I was substantially down in the mix and I still managed to stay in key and sound adequate. I would expect more from him.

Perfect example of a washed up metal ass clown not fitting in a musical situation. He got gaped onstage. I never liked this guy. I thought Brad Gillis and Jake were better w/ Ozzy.

He doesn't even have enough self respect to try and fit in, instead playing a bunch of diarrhea. He even blew in the tradeoffs, JB schooling his punk ass like a first year beginner.
This hack should have went away years ago

I think Slash would have been much better in this situation because he can play in the box and not try to sound like an 18 year old who just found his Daddy's shotgun.

While I don't often get into the "who played better than" and hate it whenever a winner always has to awarded whenever 2 players are having fun............I made an exception this time. :D

And if Eric Johnson isn't going to sound and play like he did 2 years ago I don't that Joe does now. :D

ZW is such a joke.. a parody of himself really... this guy hasn't really played since No More Tears when he actually crafted solos and picked so much cleaner than he does now. I'll give him up to that first Pride and Glory album and then it's all down hill. Speed, squealies, wrong key, gain galore, vibe pedal and chorus saturated slop. To top it off, that ridiculous ugly looking piece of $hit guitar. WTF is that thing? Can't stand this guy anymore. He is so far gone from what he was he could never get back to it. Someone needs to tell him to listen to his first two albums with Ozzy again. Would i say it to his face? Nope, look at the size of that guy, you know he can scrap and he'd probably crush my head without letting go of the Coors Light king can in his hand.

Then on the other hand you have JB , total class, great voice, good image, tone, phrasing, and chops for days.

I think they need more cowbell behind JB's solo... wtf was zakk thinking... Just lost a lot of respect for him.. play fast, thats fine... but have some taste in what you play... especially over that song! that was terrible!

I agree Dan, Slash would have been a great fit. There's some vid of Joe bringing out Jim McCarty in Detroit. Jim, from Cactus, The Rockets, Buddy Miles. Old school guy. Really great jams

I think Zakk is a bit too far out of his comfort zone and didn't try to play for the song. It was painful to listen to really. This is what JB thrives in so its no surprise he sounded a million times better than Zakk here to me anyway.

How would JB do on lets say Mr Crowley or Mother I'm coming home etc?

He would do infinitely better than Zakk did on a song that contains three chords. Seriously, Joe has already proved he can play '70s Heavy Metal and Fusion, in addition to Blues Rock.

Joe knows he smoked his ass and Zakk knows he got smoked. That was akward. Especially the pleasentries at the end. And Joe was definitely channeling some EJ in that riffage.

To be fair, Joe could own just about any rock guitar player.
I think he was being very kind to Zakk.

It's not a competition, but Joe highlights other players weaknesses.

Bullshit, I've seen him jam with plenty of guys from Clapton, Walter Trout, Jim McCarty, etc. JB was great, but there wasn't any owning going on. Stick an 80's metal asshat in the ring, and he got his ass owned good. Shown up for the chump player he is

Regardless of the licks and the tone... It's gotta be the monitors of lack of.

He must not have been able to hear himself. There's no way he'd play so badly out of tune if could hear himself. I don't think he's let himself go to that extreme.

That fast lick he goes into at about 1:45... He's playing out of key... Well then he looks down and realizes he's not on the right frets and finds the right key again... Proof that he wasn't hearing very much...

Again, as has been mentioned here already, you can't tell me you need to hear yourself perfectly to know you are in key after playing the same pentatonic box licks for 30 years? Ok, the song is in A, my root is on the low E string fifth fret. That's where i start my pentatonic box. Now i do all my runs from that point up. I think he missed the right fret when he went up the neck because he was too busy widening his stance, dipping his head back, and spitting into the air. So the proof is that he wasn't paying attention because he was too busy being badass. The guy is a joke. I can't listen to a thing he is on. Needs a haircut and a shave and to ditch the dirty biker look.

If you think ZW plays the blues, you can leave your pedals at the door.

I'm confused. You said bullshit and then agreed with me. ;)

I think if Zakk would do an about face and try a less is more
approach I could give him some credit.
But cmon the Rapid fire mess that he dishes out as of late
is sad.
And don't get me started on how he turned Rhoads and Lee's
Masterpieces into downtuned pinch and squeal and repeat
mess.
Now a freshman Wylde was quite a shining light but the
Image that is today's ZW is meh most of the time.

Without reading all the replies here Zakk gave me a major headache. Ugh! Maybe my tastes are just changing but I couldn't listen for long before I moved the clip forward. Joe on the other hand sounds great. He played in the context of the tune and his playing actually breathes. Zakk sounds so congested on this clip.

So my opinion is that half of the clip was great!

My point is, while great, he didn't blow those guys off the stage
