I’ve read a few times the MC is a hot rodded Jubilee. Would a boosted Jubilee get me 80-90 percent there?

Nope.

Wizard has a hollow midrange, even compared to the darker Jubilee. I had a 2010 MC100, with the C transformers that are/were the most Marshall-like. Still hollow in the mids, but much better than the MTL.

The power section of any Wizard is what really sets it apart though. Only amps that compare are old early 70s Superleads, vintage HiWatts, and others that have PV in the 500+ range. I found I could use an upper mid flavor boost pedal and get some better mids in the Wizards but they still lacked that midrange that I like.

This is kind of like saying the SLO and recto sound the same because of the shared circuit - whatever the case, they DON'T sound the same.

Both great, but different

I’ve seen you describe many times things that sounds like we might have some similar tastes. Plus your name. What amp/s do you like/play/recommend?

I'm a Marshall guy in the end so as much as I like Mesas, I only have 1 atm...the new Triple. It's insanely great. For Marshalls, I have a 46-2 Langner modded 72 Superlead(best modded Marshall I've had, and I've had 1 from all the big names except a real Jose), a stock 1980 2203, and a stock 68 Superlead that easily does early EVH when dimed(I use a PS2). I've had though some EVH 5153s, SLOs, G-C Rectos, 4 OG C+, 2Bs, and a few Naylors. Oh, and some vintage Fenders...Bassmans and Twins. Still have a 71 Twin.

Super helpful!

So, by hollow midrange do you mean a bit like Fryette style “dryness”? I used to have a Deliverance and while it had great thump and punch, I felt like it lacked something (perhaps both in the mids and highs).

Is that what you mean? If so, a Wizard may not be up my alley but the Jub is.

I fired up my stock 1980 2203 last night for first time in a while. Honestly struggled for first 30 minutes. Basically my playing has become weak. But after a while it clicked again. They truly are glorious beasts. I need to get a rougher old Marshall one day for modding though, feel like that is what I’ve always really wanted. Mine is too original to carve up.

nope. Not even in the same league. The wizard hits so damn hard and has that unique 3d thing going on. Also it's more articulate and percussive

The silver jubilee boosted with a 33 is a very fun and rewarding amp. If you never play it side by side with a Wizard, you will never be disappointed

I think comparing them in clips isn't going to show you the playing experience. I think both amps can record just as well as the other. But the feel of the amps aren't even close

Compared to a MC I they are similar, like an Slo and 5150 I guess. Wizard is a more hifi version. Never cared for the Jubilee.

Still don’t get the “hollow” midrange thing…very even sounding from low to high. I guess with an H30 type speaker they would be hollow in the mids, just like every other amp is.
