Ya know, I felt what you are saying with the first MC50 EL34 I had. It was voiced quite similar to the Naylor, where the mids sat, but didn't have the juicy saturation.Nope.
Wizard has a hollow midrange, even compared to the darker Jubilee. I had a 2010 MC100, with the C transformers that are/were the most Marshall-like. Still hollow in the mids, but much better than the MTL.
The power section of any Wizard is what really sets it apart though. Only amps that compare are old early 70s Superleads, vintage HiWatts, and others that have PV in the 500+ range. I found I could use an upper mid flavor boost pedal and get some better mids in the Wizards but they still lacked that midrange that I like.
I've had the SigX and Deliverance, and have played a few other Fryettes. The Wiz is not as dry, and way easier to dial in.Super helpful!
So, by hollow midrange do you mean a bit like Fryette style “dryness”? I used to have a Deliverance and while it had great thump and punch, I felt like it lacked something (perhaps both in the mids and highs).
Is that what you mean? If so, a Wizard may not be up my alley but the Jub is.
The closest I can find is:
And
But based on these clips they seem more in the same ball park than reality might suggest
Sweet! I liked the tightness and punch of the Deliverance, but it didn’t saturate as much as I’d likeI've had the SigX and Deliverance, and have played a few other Fryettes. The Wiz is not as dry, and way easier to dial in.
Noted. There did seem to be some similarities between the MGL red and Wizard in Blake’s clips. If you are looking for a poor man’s Wizard….closest I’ve found would be the Fryette D60 or Spawn Quickrod or MGL red
100%. Likes is very much but just couldn’t quite get there. I knew nothing about boosting at the time.Sweet! I liked the tightness and punch of the Deliverance, but it didn’t saturate as much as I’d like
you guys must be used to a tonne of gain/saturation. I have no problem getting heaps out of the deliverance.100%. Likes is very much but just couldn’t quite get there. I knew nothing about boosting at the time.
Wizards are killer amps that everyone should try to experience. That 2010 MC100 I had, seemed very Marshall-y to my ears until I got my 72 SL....then, it was obvious the Wizards mids sat in a different spot. I just ended up playing the 72 100% of the time, and the MC sat...so I sold it.Ya know, I felt what you are saying with the first MC50 EL34 I had. It was voiced quite similar to the Naylor, where the mids sat, but didn't have the juicy saturation.
I didn't gel with the 2016 MTL too much. It was a meaty sounding sucker, but I missed the MC.
The MC50 6L6 I have now is voiced darn near identical to the GZ modded SS100, and essentially ended my love affair with the 1984 4104, which did anything I wanted from the Friedman Plex.
The Wiz MC50 6L6 has really got its hooks into me. It's not the best solo machine like the SLO. It's not super versatile like the GZ SS100.
But I freaking love it, and find it the most instantly gratifying to play.

Love me a stock boosted 800I could get the 2555x I had close to my MCII I had next to it at the time. It got similar in punch-push, dynamics, clarity and feel but the mids on the 2555x were just fucking weird. Any where outside 1-2 o'clock on the mids knob and the amp sounded like ass.
A good stock Marshall JCM/JMP 2203 boosted or double boosted is the closest thing to a Wizard to me, but again, they're not the same.
I agree with others that Fryette and Splawn get in the ballpark. A quickrod will get you in the neighborhood and I've owned all the Fryette models except the Sigx and the CLX100 gets similar to what the Wizard offers but again, the mids are different.
At the end of the day nothing really sounds or feels exactly like a Wizard, just like nothing sounds or feels like Recto.
If you like Engl you won’t like a Wizard.Wish I could try a wizard here in Texas because I’m not hearing anything I like. Every wizard video sounds too bright and too open. Like my ultralead but brighter, which I don’t like either. Just not for me I guess? My engls are much more for me. (Invader 2 and savage). I just don’t get it.
That’s for sure!If you like Engl you won’t like a Wizard.
Engl and Wizard are polar opposites in every possible way.Wish I could try a wizard here in Texas because I’m not hearing anything I like. Every wizard video sounds too bright and too open. Like my ultralead but brighter, which I don’t like either. Just not for me I guess? My engls are much more for me. (Invader 2 and savage). I just don’t get it.
I don’t hear any similarities between them. Wizards are open, cutting, raw, and in your face.I’ve read a few times the MC is a hot rodded Jubilee. Would a boosted Jubilee get me 80-90 percent there?

I’ve said this more than once. The Jubilee reissue does not come sounding like it should. Check the bias and maybe even change the power tubes. I was ready to give mine away until I did it. Now it’s one of my favorite amps to play. I’ve never played a Wizard. The only problem I have with the Jubilee is that it doesn’t push the low end like I’d like. But that’s what a bass player is for.I don’t hear any similarities between them. Wizards are open, cutting, raw, and in your face.
Jubes are compressed, dark, and distant in comparison. Jubes are cool but Wizards are next level.
Good. It’ll save me a lot of money lol!If you like Engl you won’t like a Wizard.
