Bought some fast fret after 30 years.....

My high dollar guitar related purchase this week. No more metal container. No more wooden handle on the dispenser but the formula seems the same and I'm sick of strings getting sticky cramping my style in the heat. Sending the lady down to get me some terry cloth hand towels. Gotta get prepared for gig season.

:m17:

I like it.

Here is my routine:
Every string change - board/frets with Dunlop (or similar) and .0000 steel wool
Once a week or so - Mothers Miracle cloth (Thanks @Monkey Man for the rec)
Everyday - GHS Fast Fret

I was using Fast Fret all the time and I think it did help bring life back to old strings.

However, I did find it would "brighten" up the tone, so it might be better for guitars/amps (or guitars/amps with pickups) that are a little darker, if the extra brightness is an issue for a person.

I rot uncoated plain strings within hours of playing so tried usign fast fret many years ago which helped a bit. Then I started using coated strings and the need for fast fret ended so haven’t used FF in years.

Unbelievable that the packet looks pretty-much the-same as mine and it's 40+ years old.

I assume I must've mentioned it in another thread way-back (have a vague memory of doing so) 'cause I didn't specifically name it in this one. I use it on frets and metal hardware.

311Bougieman… Damn.. I feel like a maintenance bum. 😂
You 'n' me both bro'.

He must eat a bunch of fibre 'cause he's waaay-regular.

That & I think he plays Jamaican music being that reggaeular… Only guy who will never have to use naphtha.. Respect 😟👍🏽 I’m going to go work on my newly acquired insecurities..

IDK, if strings deteriorate I just change strings vs all the cleaning "beauty" products, steel wool, . If my fretboard gets dirty or dry I use Music Nomad F-One oil.

after I play or during breaks, I wipe down the guitar so sweat and oils don't stay ion the guitar for long.

when MF has accessory sales, I buy enough sets of strings to get the maximum discount, usually 15% off.

cleaning the fretboard with every string change with F-One oil and changing strings more frequently seems to work well for me. quick and easy.

I've been rubbing FF on the strings and wiping them down after I finish playing every time for decades and I haven't needed to use any of that shit on my fretboard ever. I don't recall the last time I've had all the strings off at the same time on any of my players and my fretboards are all clean.

I usually change the high E before every gig or every other gig to avoid breakage but it'd get too expensive and be too much hassle to be changing out all the strings every two shows. Even brand new they get sticky down here in the heat after 30-45 minutes. My first set is usually around 2 hours so I gotta have something.

Never expected this thread to turn into four pages. Crazy.

doesn't take much F-One oil. I used to change one string at a time; now I just take off the whole set, if it has a FR, I just block the tram in place first; and do a quick wipe down of the fretboard, only needs a few drops unless it's really dry, usually only rosewood and ebony boards.

I get cheap EHX strings from MF for most guitars; Ernie Ball RPS for floating trem guitars.

They're on sale now, at MF. They work just fine IMO. Get 21 sets to get 15% off, for $89.07 after the discount; which is $4.24 a set.

I use a custom set so they have to be ordered separately. Used to be really cheap through "just strings" buying generics (which were great quality btw) but he retired last year so my cost doubled and I been using Ernie Balls which tbh aren't as good....
