Brazilian rosewood, how many can tell anyways???

My McKorina has braz board, they were supposed to make the first 500 with them and had to stop early because of tree huggers or something. It sounds awesome, but I think it's more from the body and neck being Korina than the fingerboard.

I will but the entire neck shaping the tone, not sure if it makes a difference where the rw came from.

not to sound like a dick, but you've never played the 2 side by side...so how can you even comment???

just throwing that out there...lol. please don't take offense

No offense taken but I have played several brw LPs ;)

So you will place the $1000 down with 4 different guitars on the table?

you need to compare an IRW and BRW LP side by side to see/feel the difference. I'd be willing to take the Pepsi challenge Scott ;)

Brazilian this, brazilian that..................blindfolded and $1000 of their money on the table how many could play a guitar and state.........." as yes this is brazilian rosewood, I can tell by the feel through my calloused tips and that overtone that only a thin small piece of wood brings to the table...."

Sorry but I dont buy it, yeah for the main body of the guitar but the fretboard? nope.

If you get a nice piece it looks nicer. That is the only thing I can say.

I wont know the difference to pay the extra money, I could tell between my gmw necks due to owning them for years but that is all I have on this subject

You mean in fingerboards? Or in general, like for backs and sides of an acoustic?
I can'ttell the difference on finger boards sonically between Indian and Brazilian. But I certainly can pick out Madagascar vs. anything by its brightness.

My 1968 Martin D-18 has a BRW fingerboard and its awesome to look at. Tone wise and volume wise that 68 is a banjo killing monster. I need a vocal mic to be heard over it. Thats the only one I have in my collection.

Mostly fretboards, was browsing the TGP classifieds and guys are making sure you know that the board is BRAZIALIAN ROSEWOOD!!!!!!!............just dont get it as imo it brings pretty much nothing to the table for me for the extra ching. IF I want extra slippery I oil the ebony boards or good nude with the maple.

I think the big deal with boards is that the US is not allowing import of it anymore so it's a bit unobtainium/bragging rights kinda deal.

Agreed. Plus, I for one hate the feel of ebony boards. Something about it just doesn't feel right, no matter how much it's oiled. A nude maple board on the other hand gets me all tingly inside :emofag: :grim:

Yup, I'm with ya on the mapl board...

Brazilian rosewood in my experience, has a much better tap tone, is more dense, stable and holds onto frets better than Indian. I usually prefer maple on fender type guitars, but I like BR alot too and its my favorite for gibson style and acoustics. I don't really care for indian and it is my least favorite of any of the commonly used fingerboard woods. Short of a few exceptions it is usually dull sounding and seems to absorb rather than transfer vibrations.

I have a PRS with a BRW fingerboard, and PRS's with indian, I dont hear enough difference to discuss, I have, however played one that had a solid BRW neck on it, and there IS a difference. You could actually feel the strings ring in this one, it was killer! I'm still trying to talk the guy out of it 2 years later. His did not have a tight grain, it was actually kind of an open grain, but it rang like a bell! I think some of the guys selling them are just saying that becuse of the import ban, and its hard to get now, if not impossible, so they want to get all they can for them. Who can blame them? We all want to get what we want, don't we? - Jim

SWEEET!

Wow, thats the only TA like that I've ever seen { basswood/koa } I bet that one rings better than the PRS I played! The rosewood on yours looks like a tighter grain than the McCarty I played, looks smoother across the back of the neck. Very Nice!! Have a friend who just got a custom shop relic strat, He was telling me about the weight factor in strats, and how around 7 lbs. is the magic number, I think somwhere between 6.8- 7.2, He showed me how the VERY high-end strat dealers list the weight, I thought it was nonsence, exept that this guy knows his stuff, then I got to play it, and DAM!!!!, it was the ten-ton violin tone I had always thought a strat should sound like, but never was able to find the magic one { I've had several } I wonder how that applies to other guitars? Been playing for 30+ years and still learning. - Jim

my 95 strat has brazillian rosewood...it's almost as dark as ebony..super tight grain..folks have commented on it being a particularly nice piece of rosewood, but i'm not a cabinetmaker so i have no idea what seperates great rosewood from not great.

feels and sounds good though.

I hear it makes a huge improvement difference on PRS guitars, though I can't yet afford to investigate.
