Burning smell coming from amp??

Wasn't bad but smelled like the heat came on, should I lay off the head and have it looked at?? maybe a power tube?? Im not well versed in tube amps like most of you guys but I don't wanna damage the head, its a 5153 50 watt for the record...

First thing I would do is look at the power tubes to see if there's anything on them.

Thx Fraggle Im gonna check out the tubes, hope its not a transformer or anything but Im sure its not, just a little inexperienced with this stuff and I don't wanna drop it off for bucks if its really nothing...

I have had new power tubes that smelled like the heat came on. Definitely not like it was burning though. Big difference between the two.

If you are not comfortable enough to pull the amp out of the shell and identify the source of the smell, you need someone to help you that has some experience. No one here can assist you until you do this.

Look at the printed on lettering on the power tubes, if a tube red plated it will char the paint and you will smell it. Usually the amp will be humming uncontrollably when the tube is red plating. Did you hear any funny hummin going on when you smelled it??

Nothing sounds like that hum. I hear that I immediately power down. Forget standby switch first.

Check resistance setting on head and make sure it matches the cab...

Took it out, but everything seems kosher, fired it up and no burning...unless I put my nose right against the power tubes..sounded great and I just jammed on it for half hour, it was the same smell I get from the tubes up close just smelled it farther away...go figure...seems OK now..if its a power tube I guess it will go eventually, but they glowed nicely...so...
