Quality wise, definitely the Bogner but it also depends on if you want more upper mid presence or the Bogner lower mid, "chewy" thing.

Yeah.... I know the bogner will have that thick, bloomy, woody tone... while the Marshall that metallic kerrang. Both good... just personal preference.

I've owned a stock JVM210H, 410H, and a Voodoo modded 410H. I've also owned a Shiva 20th head.

If it's only between a stock JVM (of any kind) and a Shiva, def get the Shiva. But if you could ship that JVM to Voodoo and get his mod for less than the Shiva, it's not as clear a choice. The Voodoo mods make the JVM a VERY nice sounding amp. The Voodoo mods give it cleans that rival the Shiva, and while it doesn't get exactly Bogner dirt tones, it has a LOT of amazing breakup, crunch, classic rock, metal, and modern metal tones. Plus, the JVM switching is a dream as a gigging guitarist. I gigged my Voodoo modded JVM for awhile, and it was tough to beat as a cover band rock guitarist.

I stopped gigging the Voodoo 410H because I was tired of hauling that heavy amp, but the 50w head would be much lighter and similar to the Bogner head. I'd look seriously into the Voodoo JVM option.

Thanks... I could actually pick up a modded JVM205 with the Plexi Mod and Mod on OD2 channel to bring gain back to the OD1 gain of the 410... don't think it was done by Trace at Voodoo but it is $1000 less then the Shiva. But damn the 20th Shiva really intrigues me still.

Trace's mod is really the best I've heard. It improves all modes on all channels. As you may have noticed, the higher gain settings on the dirty channels are just about unusable on a stock JVM. The feedback is uncontrollable and the gainy tones are just kinda meh. The Voodoo mod turns the JVM into a world class amp, imo.

The other thing you can do is just watch the used market. Voodoo modded JVMs come up every once in awhile, and you might nab one for a steal. I got mine right here in the RT classifieds.

Yeah... thanks. Ive heard the whole feedback/noise issue on the gain channels is an issue. Since Im in amp purgatory right now... I think I will just hold out, watch the different sites and see what becomes available. Im still leaning towards the 20th shiva but the voodoo modded JVM seems like it could be something to keep an eye out for. Happy Thanksgiving

I'd go with a PT100 before either of those
Thats a great amp Paul!! Used to have 1 back in my 'better' days....definitely nice and versatile. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours my friend!!

If you're going to go the PT route I'd try to pick up the SE. I haven't played one but I had one of the originals and really didn't like the gain channels. The clean channel, IMO, is better than the Shiva. All that said you might want to save up even more and get a BE100. I've had mine going on a year and still love it.

I had the BE100... nice amp but wasn't $3200 nice to me... just not versatile enuf for the gigging musician. The lack of a master 2 or solo boost really hurts me with that amp... and for that money, it should have one. Great for what it does tho. Happy Thanksgiving.

yeah... I thought about waiting just a bit longer and seeing if maybe the SE P100 could be had for around $2000....which is my cap. Cheers

I would throw in the Marshall JVM410HJS (the Satriani version). Crazy versatile amp with some great tones. If you are patient you can find one for around $1,600. It is like a history of an approximation of Marshall amps.

They are a bit pricey...I usually use the HBE as a lead boost and am also running a dual loop loop master in the FXLoop of my BE with a box of rock with the boost side on for a little volume boost on all my amps.

I've played the 20th Shiva and owned a green chaise. The extra mode on the 20th is only reason I might consider owning it but for me the gain channels are too loose and unresponsive for more modern rock.

Thx for the feedback. Yeah, the chewiness and openness of the shiva keep me a bit apprehensive. I am a rock guy...and moreso lead guy... but i do like tight punchy rhythms when doing so. Not ruling 1 out.... just want to find whats 'right' for me.

The Shiva is no more versatile than the BE. same lay out. I have a 20th Shiva and did own a BE, you need to get the second master vol mod done on the BE to make it more gig friendly. The XTC would be a closer comparison to the CAA. Oh I also have a 100B XTC which is in a different league than the Shiva, versatility, tone and for live use.
I did own a CAA standard years ago which was nice but completely different mids than the Bogners.

Mind blowing that there really isn't many, if any amps that can truly do what you want at that price point.

Cornford MK-50 II is the only thing I know of that would make me happy for clean, crunch, and loop. But it's too much $$

Maybe the PT?

Yea the PT will do it. And the solid state loop is one of the best.
