Sorry, Old Bitch is one of the stupidest names I've heard for an amp, and there's been some doozies lately.

As a marketing professional, I wholeheartedly agree. As a guitarist, I also agree. I realize it was a play on "Aldrich" but I think its extremely short sighted to go in that direction. Only a very small portion of your potential customer base will "get it". Poor name + poor logo = poor sales (once the fanbois get theirs ).

It seems like you guys are shooting from the hip rather doing any real market studies...rarely a formula for sustainable success.

I disagree about the product name. Being realistic, the "OB" market targets a very narrow group of musicians, mostly male, many of which are into the boteek world of brands and gear already. OB is consistent with the flavor of many similar niche amp names that are already out there, as well as effect pedals, cables, micro-brews, wines, liquors, etc.--products with similar names (odd, distasteful or otherwise) that the target group would be familiar with.

When I first heard of a brand of speakers called Scumback I rolled my eyes. Then I tried one and realized you can call it whatever you want, if you got a good product it will sell.

I don't disagree that good products will sell to a certain sub-application of users, but there are many other legitimate groups who exhibit different decision making traits. Silly, potentially offensive names can have a significant negative impact with some of these groups. Given the choice, a smart company will choose to appeal to "a few more" rather than "a few less". A name like "Old Bitch" along with a cartoonish graphic is most likely to elicit "a few less" sales. Unfortunately it's all too common to see guitarists (and others) make decisions that have more to do with form than function. Knowing that, a wise marketer will take advantage of it.

Sure, I can think of a lot of people that might find that moniker distasteful--including my 97 year old grandmother--but none of them are the target demographic for a $3K rock/metal amp.

I'd be willing to bet more guitar players would find the fact that "Cameron" is written on it to be more distasteful than "Old Bitch"

I think the trend of branding amps with weird and wacky names is getting a bit silly. As there's a CCV, CCM, consider CCATM (Atomica) or CCARCH (Aldrich).

I couldn't agree more. I also don't get what a devil girl and an old bitch have in common? An amp in that price range needs a name and logo with a bit of class. As it is it looks like something you would find in Guitar Satan, right next to the BlackHearts.
