can a headstock ruin a guitar for you?

I loathe the Suhr peghead. But I think it looks decent reversed.
Same for the 6 on side Hamer head, and Banana.

I have to agree with this completely

I'm like the opposite of everyone here. I hate all pointy headstocks, reverse headstocks, obscenely large headstocks, and think that Suhr is one of the better modern spins, while the tele is the all-time most gorgeous and simple design. It does have some influence over my opinion of a guitar aphetically, but it probably wouldn't be a complete deal-breaker on a nice machine.

I generally agree. I am a fender/gibson guy and find Suhr probably the least offensive of other brand headstocks. I've owned a Jackson and it was great guitar, but... that headstock just looks kinda silly. I've come close to buying another but in the back of my mind kinda know in the end it probably wouldn't get gigged because of it

I think there is a small window where people can pull off extreme headstocks/body shapes and then it becomes kind of a self-parody but people don't realize it. All the power to the guys that love 'em but I don't wanna be that clueless old guy thinking he's a badass when really he's coming across like that fat star wars kid video or something.

Awesome thread... Glad to know i'm not the only one that can't get into the Suhr headstock... This is what I see... lol

Interestingly, while I hate the Tele headstock shape I hate it even more when someone puts a Strat headstock on a Tele.

Suhr and G&L. Both have awesome guitars, but please change up the headstocks.

I dislike the Tele headstock so much, I actually prefer a Strat headstock on them.

I bought a band new Dean ML in my teens way back in back in '82. It was the most bitchin guitar I'd ever seen. It had the original ginormous "V" headstock. To this day, it's one of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned, probably because of the sheer mass of the headstock, but man, that shape. HAHA I pulled it out for a gig a few years ago on a lark and a female in the audience walked up to me right after I put it on, stood there for a few seconds, pointed at it, shook her head "no", gave me the finger and walked out. Her loss cause I was gonna bust out some "Jessie's Girl".

The size and shape of the headstock should compliment the guitar as a whole. A pointy Jackson headstock on a rounded Strat-shaped body just looks all wrong to me.

FWIW, I really like the headstocks on the new Friedman guitars! I thought I saw a similar alternate beveled headstock from Suhr a while back. Maybe it was a one-off, but I liked that one a lot better. I love my Suhr though and don't mind the beak enough for it to be a deal-breaker.
