Ok,
you guys ever go thru this?
No matter HOW MANY amps you own.....
think you find the PERFECT amp....
only after a few months you start "looking around" for that different tone?
Man....either I am sick in the head and need help or this is common on gear heads ALWAYS looking for the next better amp!
Drop your thoughts......

PS....I have owned over 20 amp heads and many BOUTIQUE amps so its not that I havent had the GOLD....
just always looking!!

Dan

Ive just come to the conclusion that there is not best just different so that mentality will lead me to own many "different amps"

I am perfectly satisfied with my amps, in fact I think I have too many. I rotate through them so I don't get bored. I have 5 BTW. Lately my GAS has been very very minimal, only wanting a few small things here and there (pickups, pedals, speakers, etc). I have been concentrating more on playing and less on gear and its been a good thing.

short answer, no

long answer,

This

Different tools for different jobs, there definitely are bests for certain jobs for certain people though.

It is pretty bad(GAS)
lately I have been jonesing for a Mesa Mark III Blue stripe.........
Only way to cure the gas.....is to BUY!!! :D

I've gotten much better.

I think I've only bought like five preamps since my M4.

1) I think our perception of "tone" changes from day to day.
2) I think our tastes evolve and change over time.
3) On any given day, I don't think there is one and only one tone that I like.

Right now I'm pretty happy with my XTC 101b and the ability to instantly switch between three different mods. I'm also dig'n my Lonestar especially when I hit it with a good OD pedal.

Tomorrow..........................?

Thats why I keep going back to the MTS/Egnater amps. KILLER KILLER modules......
I have owned them all. All the ones I have now are HEAVILY modded.
But I still keep checking out other amps!
And they all sound so damn good!
I swear my Drummer and Bass player are going to kill me if I go thru this buying amp stage again!
*sigh*
I am just always looking and wanting the next best thing....guess it dont exist.
Need to stop it and get back into playing.

Buy, Buy, Buy! The gas is uncontrollable. I am probably the happiest I've ever been with the 3 heads I have now(do I really need 3???) and I look on the boards and ebay everyday for that next best thing. I plot my next purchase that I really can't afford. I must say that being pretty content with the current stuff has really helped me control pulling the trigger on just anything. Heard a Mesa Mark IIc+ in a music store the other day with 232cap and boy was that a tone machine. Art and I agreed that was definately a temptation. At the end of the day being happy with what I have for now has made me play more and plot less. I'm sure it won't last long!

Basically, no, although I have come to the realisation that no matter what amp I play through, I tend to sound very similar. I mean, I don't know whether it's how I dial it or whether it's my natural voice coming through but whether it's a Boogie, a Bogner or a Diezel, the tone is pretty similar with little nuances. Of course, the nuances are there but it's nothing like hearing person A play a Bogner and person B play a Boogie, know what I mean? As long as the tone is good, the feel is most important to me as of late.

It's actually somewhat lessened my GAS :dunno:

I think having mutliple style amps helps a lot. I tend to sound like me no matter the amp but what I look for is more a combination of tone and feel.... where for me the feel is probably a bit more important.

I think I sound the same no matter what amp I am playing thru(so says my drummer and bass player) but for me is where I think I 'need' the different tone of another amp. Thats why I think most of it is in my head or.........
I just LOVE getting new amps and need something to JUSTIFY IT!!

Yeah, I tend to sound pretty much the same through most amps...ONCE THEY ARE AT A LEVEL OF QUALITY. After that, it's most important for me to be able to not have to fight the amp to get what I'm after.

It's a damn shame higher quality amps don't make be play any better. No matter what, I still sound crappy.

Yeah I'm still searching for the amp with a "Less Suck" knob on it. :D

Having some variety definitely makes it easier. I find myself constantly going between my 4 amps for high gain tones and realizing that I have exceptional amp tone on each. Still, the temptation is always there and hanging out on forums adds to it. The new Renegade looks nice. Mesa Electrdayne. Rebel 30.............

I said this in another thread. I changed amps, gear, a lot - until I found what I was looking for. I have zero gas now, and have for a while. Obviously that isn't set in stone, but just like my attitude with women - if I'm looking around, I haven't found what I'm looking for. My apologies to Bono. :D
