Well, pretty much all of us are on this forum because we love gear. We love buying new gear, trying new gear, talking about gear, trading gear, etc. I really enjoy most of the guitars and amps I buy, but I just like trying other stuff. Sometimes it gets to a point where you need to slow down, but there's nothing wrong with getting bored with certain stuff and wanting something new. It would be great if we could all afford to own as many guitars and amps as we'd want, but very few people have that opportunity, so that's why I think a lot of us keep swapping stuff back and forth.

That about hits the nail on the head. Been playing for over 25 years and love talking gear and buying/selling. Whats funny is that my drummer has been playing for about the same amount of time but he dont get into the drum scene like I do with guitars. I really love yakking it up here on rig talk and sharing my GAS pain!
Really wanting another Diezel........or maybe that Mark III?
God Damn I need help......

almost a year or two ago, i decided to give up playing. got rid of everything. Now i'm starting over again and having fun. I've also decided on what kind of rig that i'm going to build and see if i can keep it under 2k. one more head and i'm done. after that, i should be satisfied for a month or two.

I dont think we can. its a deep seeded thing. Psychologically we think of guitars and amps like females. Its really hard to find the perfect combo. First were happy with the vintage woman but then the wild tnew thing comes along with that quality that seems unique and it screams a little better. hows that?

Most band mates will say that a guitarist's sound doesn't vary much from one amp to the next. I think if a player has found their "voice" they will sound like them through any amp. However, there is a "feel" factor that band mates and people in the audience usually don't pick up on.

What I mean is that when I play through my recto, I sound the same as when I play my buddy's VH4. But on the VH4 I don't fight the amp as much. It feels much more smooth and this inspires me to play more and I create better riffs/songs.

There will never be amp or piece of gear that ends the quest! Any amp at most has a handful of sounds or tones. There are infinite tones possible in the world of guitar, so we will always have G.A.S. because as musicians, most of us are ever-changing and developing new styles and ideas and striving for new goals.

I'm totally satisfied with what I have. There are several pieces of gear that I will not part with. Doesn't stop me from buying new stuff though and I am willing to fund those purchases by selling gear I have that is not on the "never sell" list... I'm not looking for "better", just "different"...

Dude.......you have some of the best Amps I have seen in my life!!
Rock on Nick!!!

Dan

I'm lucky to have owned and own some incredibly cool amps. My whole mind frame is i like versatility and I need to be able to justify the gear that I own. EVERYTHING that i own i use to gig, practice, rehearse, record, track bands , reamp and etc. If i see a piece of gear collecting dust, it's gotta go! unless its something rare or not easily obtainable again.. :D

maybe the grass is always greener but sometimes it's about the chase, sometimes not. As long as your a player and you utilize your gear I think it justifies the madness :D It's fun as hell trying new stuff though and I love the rush i get when i crack open the box from fedex or ups and run upstairs with my new amp.... ITS A RUSH!! but at the end of the day you will always sound like you....

I remember the day my Splawn Nitro came in. It was in January and the weather was about -10 degrees in Mich!
I got that amp inside and unboxed as fast as possible. Waited for the WARM time....plugged in and ripped it up!
Just that moment was a RUSH!!!
Love to have that again.......
maybe a Diezel coming home.....

you should have seen my dumb ass run down the stairs when fedex came with my CCV....i ran outside in my Skivvies !! NOW THAT'S SOMETHING YOUR LOCAL FEDEX GUY HAS NEVER SEEN!

That sounds like the day when my Cameron modded Wigl Purplexi came in. It was the one that Lynch used on Tour before going with the Randall Lynch box.
That one damn near brang tears to my eyes!! But like all gear......I sold it to buy something new!!

I thought I was when I was busy and occupied with work, but after thing's calmed down with work the craziness has come back.  I would be happy just having any amp I own right now and keeping it but you know how that goes.

I used to cycle amps all the thime. Then I bought my TriAmp, and have been very happy with my time for almost two years now.

every 7 years the cells in the human body fully rebuild and replace themselves.

this accounts for why some people now have allergies that they didnt have before, or wierd tastes that they had or didnt have for certain foods. or even sleeping habbits and social abilities. its all part of life.

with that said, the tone we seek in our heads can also change slightly in this period. and each person's is different, so the constant chasing of that tone is why you see so much money involved and also so much gear flipping.

i also have to say that i have alot for sale on this forum, but as for gear im exceptionally satisfied with my amplifier and cabinets, and just recently decided while gathering money to try something new with effects.

ive had 3 amplifiers my entire life. and the only reason i went with a head was because i blew up a SS 2x12.

now, as far as guitars go, im alot more picky. and i believe that the guitar is as much as an expression tool as the player himself than ANY other piece of gear anyone can own. on that subject, i still gas for certain things and im always looking out for that one instrument that can make inspirations happen and also get great tone while playing amazing all at the same time.

an adiction? no. just common sense that some people want to try new sounds, where others are searching for one thing, and one thing only. the tone thats in their heads, versus creating tones blindly in trying to find what fits them best.
