Rlord1974,
I was told not to expect a 16 ohm LB or CB for maybe another year.
I meant this - should I run with 8ohms or sell my 8 ohm LBs and get all 16 ohm.
Are most cabs run series or parallel? What is the preferred method I should follow based on the diagrams above?
Thanks dude.
It really comes down to personal preference and how you intend to use your cab.
Two of the more common solutions would be:
1 - Assumes you will only ever use your cab in mono
If this is the case, just get two more 8 ohm speakers, wire the cab in series-parallel and you'll have an 8 ohm 4x12
2 - Assumes you might want to split the cab and run it in stereo occasionally, and mono occasionally as well
If this is the case, sell the two 8 ohm speakers you have and get four 16 ohm speakers. Wire the left two speakers in parallel for a load of 8 ohms. Wire the right two speakers in parallel for a load of 8 ohms. Get a Marshall switchable jack, which will then allow you to run the cab:
A) in stereo, as just described (ie, 8 ohms per side), or
B) in mono at 4 ohms total impedence (ie, the two 8 ohm pairs of speakers wired together in parallel), or
C) in mono at 16 ohms total (ie, the two 8 ohm pairs of speakers wired together in series)
Again, it really depends on how you expect to use the cab. These are just two of the many options available. There are many more. For example...
With four 8 ohm speakers, you could put two jacks on the back of your cab. Wire one jack to the two left 8 ohm speakers, wired in series for a load of 16 ohms. Wire the second jack to the two right 8 ohm speakers wired in series for a load of 16 ohms. Then run two speaker cables from your head to the cab. You would run the two speaker cables out of the two 8 ohm speaker outputs on the back of your head, because the two 16 ohm sides of the cab would effectively be running in parallel under this method, resulting in an impedence of 8 ohms (and, hence why you would use the 8 ohm speaker outputs on your head).
Confused yet?
